Time to spill the tea behind this launch and me being super quiet the last two weeks.
Two weekends ago, I was doing yard work when a tool handle broke off and sliced the side of my wrist OPEN. My husband wasnāt home and I thought, this is how I go out?!?! Yard work?!? I couldnāt tell where I was injured but my thoughts were- I cannot pass out here for my kids to find me. It was SCARY.
I was able to woozily get myself into the house. My kids heard my screams, they called my husband and he mustāve did 500mph to get home. We rushed to the ER.
We had not even rounded the block when I received an alert of an import duty fee I had to pay asap. I also was stressing Iād not shipped my orders that day (Saturday). In pain, I paid the fee because my launch was days away. My mind was all over the place. And a part of me questioned why I couldnāt even have an emergency without tending to my business š
But this launch was not just mine, itās many small businesses and Iāll show up for my ppl literally NO MATTER WHAT.
At the hospital, I received stitches, a tetanus shot and zero pain meds. I swear the lidocaine shots were the most painful part.
My hand was beyond swollen. I thought I was going to have to get my wedding ring cut off. The Tuesday after I had a crying breakdown. I could barely move my fingers. No way was I launching Halloween in three days. I panicked thinking I damaged a nerve.
My friends truly showed up for me as I quietly stressed. The sent me flowers, breakfast, care packages and gift cards for coffee.
I tried my hardest to not miss a beat. I stayed as calm as I could and took it as easy as possible. I gave myself grace. I was forced to slow down which is SO not me.
Every order went out as usual with my families help same day before 4pm est. Truly. My husband helped me ship a near 100lb order I physically couldnāt do. My kids taped my boxes. Carried them in. My husband shipped them. My friends have been plugging me away while I couldnāt hold my phone, typeā¦
As of today. I can move alllll of my fingers normally, the swelling and bruising from the shots are gone. I was able to curl my hair yesterday and can finally use my phone again pain free. Welcome back my left hand!
The last two weeks were very humbling. Iāll never take my hands for granted again. Iām thankful for my family and amazing friends.
I truly gave everything I had to this launch.
I debated not sharing. But. Many of you have followed me for years. Some say I inspire you which I donāt personally think of myself as an inspirational person⦠So. This is for those who need inspiration through a difficult time.
Running your own small business solo is hard. Incidents happen. When they do- itās ok to panic. But panic to your friends or family first. Seek advice for guidance. Donāt message customers immediately or make posts out of anxiety. Stop. Assess the situation. Calm down. Come up with a plan. Give yourself grace. Come up with a resolution. Because things WILL work themselves out. You may need a new plan, help or to literally cancel your orders. But itās best to send out just one message versus multiple where you canāt do the order than hours later you can because you figured it out like the boss you are.
I took from this that I need to create a game plan that gives my husband concise directions on how to post to my socials. Close off orders. Access my unfulfilled orders to message customers. And to up my childrenās first aid skills. And as always- having good people in your circle will keep you going š
