✨ A LITTLE GILLIAM HISTORY
Gilliam Candy Company was started by candy maker Cleve Gilliam in Paducah, Kentucky in 1927. A newspaper announcement from April 1927 reported that the new Gilliam Candy Company had begun operating at 132 Broadway in Paducah.
🍭 FUN & UNIQUE FACTS!
🚀 Candy by the hundred-foot! In 1931, a reporter visiting the Gilliam factory described workers producing stick candy in hundreds of feet of continuous candy, which was then cut into individual sticks.
🔥 Things got HOT! That same historic factory report said the candy mixture reached temperatures as high as 312°F before being poured.
🍬 They weren’t always just about candy sticks! Early Gilliam treats included peanut bars, coconut candies, peanut-butter candy, fudge and the Kentucky Blue Grass nickel candy bar.
🏭 They grew FAST! Historical records say production started around 750 pounds of candy per day, later climbing to roughly 1,700 pounds per day. By 1941, Gilliam products were reportedly being shipped to 24 states.
🌈 Some flavors get pretty wild! Beyond familiar favorites like peppermint and root beer, Gilliam candy sticks have been sold in flavors such as S’mores, Birthday Cake, Piña Colada, Passion Fruit, Peaches & Cream, Clove, Rum & Butter and Chocomint.
