As we celebrate 32 years of Norwex this month, we’re taking a walk down memory lane and sharing how it all began. What started with one simple idea and one iconic cloth has grown into something so much bigger…with solutions for every room in your home.

But no matter how much we’ve grown, we’ll never forget our roots. Our CEO, Beate Hjeltnes, keeps one of the original microfiber cloths by her desk to remind her of the legacy her family has built and why we do what we do when days are hard.

In 1994, my father, Bjørn, started Norwex with the radical idea that we could clean our homes without a single harsh chemical, a vision that began with the pioneering power of our very first microfiber cloth. 🫧🏡

The secret lies in the engineering of our fabric, which is tightly woven so it's 200 times thinner than a human hair! When knitted into dense, tiny loops, it acts like a microscopic 'vacuum cleaner', physically grabbing and trapping dirt and up to 99% of bacteria 🦠 - instead of just pushing them around like ordinary cloths. This mechanical action eliminates the need for harmful chemical residues and wasteful paper towels completely. 🧪

Today, consumers feel pressured to constantly buying 'new', supposedly-green products which require endless manufacturing AND chemicals. True environmental responsibility means buying less, and reusing more. I keep a microfiber cloth by my desk which is nearly 30 years old that I continue to use. To me, that is sustainability. I truly believe that we can make a profound impact simply by returning to the mindset of our grandparents, who valued quality, preserved what they owned, and lived closer to nature. Our Mission at Norwex has never been more important: Sharing a cleaner, safer way of living by reducing harmful chemicals in everyday lives. 🌿
