It’s been a long while since I’ve had the time to switch gears and make a keepsake box. The ribbon I used for the tab is from Soutache It’s a little thick but so beautiful I had to use it. It also makes the interior panel buldge a bit but I just used a little more glue and extra weight when pressing the cover. Voila!

We’ve refreshed our palettes for the Long-stitch-link-stitch with Hand-folded envelope workshop (via recording: link in bio>workshops online). Each one a trio of Carta Varese patterns. The buttons are all hand selected from our beloved neighbour the extraordinary ribbon & button shop two doors up. Maili Powell the propietress, is new to IG, so there aren’t a lot of photos, but she’s adding to it daily! 😊

Details: a recent bookshelf rearrangement of favourite blank books, some freshly stitched, others from decades ago.

I always encourage students to fill their handbound books. There is great joy in seeing books bulge with buckled pages from watercolour, collage, and ephemera… though every now and then, a book appears to insist upon staying gloriously blank.

I’m delighted to be returning for my second teaching collaboration with for the month of May. This month’s project is The Art of the Hinge. This structure, with its articulated covers, opens up (ahem, pardon the pun) a wide range of possibilities for presenting photos, poems, paintings, or what-have-you. The book can be made as thin or as gloriously thick as you wish, though our favourite part may be the endless mixing and matching possibilities for spines, covers and hinges.

It has been such a delight to see the Inspiration Gallery populate with so many fabulous material choices, and even more so, to see the books in action.

I’m looking forward to seeing you and connecting many of your faces with your books during the sharing session this Friday!

Club Artful Q4 begins tomorrow, Sunday, May 3. And it’s not too late to join us!

In the first hour with me we will hand-fold an envelope without a template, with a charming eyelet closure!

In the second hour with .studio she will lead the group in painting small imaginitive flowers onto little labels which we will attach to the envelope to create whimsical seed packets. (A lovely gift for Mother’s Day 🌸)

You will most likely have all the supplies on hand save for the eyelet set (which can be acquired rather easily) but if not you’ll be able to finish your envelope afterwards. The lesson will be recorded and available later the same day.
