Today we recall happy memories of our dear friend Max Maven on what would have been his 75th birthday.

Though we can no longer hear that deep, booming voice, we can still remember it—because we knew it. And we knew him.

Max was a cherished friend of Magic Inc. for many years and lectured for us on several occasions. His brilliance, generosity, and presence left an indelible mark on our community.

Happy Birthday, Max—wherever you are.

Two Lectures for the Price of One!

1) Introducing BRAND NEW Book: The Balloon Busker's Ultimate Guide to Making Money By Jay Collen

" Busking is defined as a performance of music, dance, street theatre or art in a public space for voluntary donations"

The first feature will be a discussion of Jay's newest book, The Balloon Busker's Ultimate Guide to Making Money. Jay has been a highly successful balloon busker in Chicago for over 20 years, and his new book shares the inner secrets of making real money balloon busking. Much of what he has to say applies to any kind of busking, and can be utilized by magicians, jugglers, musicians and other street performers. Everyone who busks, or wants to busk, or is deciding whether to busk, should attend this lecture.

2) Material from Jay's nearly-out-of-print book: Magic Unconcealed By Jay Collen

Jay's critically acclaimed earlier book, Magic Unconcealed, is on the verge of selling out its print run. For the second half Jay is going to do a farewell lecture focusing on tricks and routines from the book. These tricks and routines were developed over more than 30 years as a professional magician. These are real-world and audience tested effects, using direct methods with no knuckle busting. Their success also influenced the exciting and novel magic theory set forth in the book. This lecture will be enriching for anyone who performs magic.

Would you like to learn how to read tarot cards but not sure where to start? Do you have a deck laying around that you want to finally begin using? Are you merely curious to know what’s the deal with this mysterious art?

Whether you’re an aspiring mystic or a dyed-in-the-wool skeptic, this entry-level class will introduce you to all the tools necessary for starting your own tarot journey. Topics such as tarot history, types of decks, myths and superstitions will be covered – along with card meanings and how to give a reading. Attendees will also participate in a collaborative reading exercise and receive a custom zine with helpful information from the class. No previous experience is required, only an open mind!

No need to bring a deck -- ALL materials will be provided.

Ethan Schleeter and Kristen Kaniewski are artists, magicians, and divination fanatics who have participated in tarot conferences around the country and studied under such masters as Mary Greer, Robert Place, and Enrique Enriquez. Since 2018 they’ve taught divination classes and facilitated tarot events throughout the Chicagoland area.
