Ida B Wells was a Chicago journalist and civil rights leader who literally was one of the founders of the NAACP. Her writing exposed the horrors of lynchings and advocated to end them. She did a lot of work for women’s rights, too. She’s amazing.

Kathryn of Blackbird Letterpress not only has art about women in history, but also nature, including a lot of bird art. There are classic letterpress cards, and some that are punch-out models. The warbler had us reciting Brooklyn 99 all afternoon.

Thank you to FeltiFriends Studio for leading a splendid pigeon-making felting class this weekend. Sam showed everybody how to make a basic bird form, how to make each wing, and then how to add little pops of color and details to make each pigeon unique! It involves a lot of patience, but it’s totally worth it. Look how cute these birds came out! Thanks, Sam!

New risograph prints in from alec espínola! The first one is called En Route and City Bound, and the bright colors remind us of Dr Seuss’ Mulberry Street and Richard Scarry’s Busytown. Let’s visit some cool places in Albany Park. We stopped by Restoried Bookshop, The Scent Queens Candle Co. & Apothecary Shoppe, THE JADE VINE, a. favorite design, and of course Hey, I Thought Of You! Last night we made our own stamps at Bartleby’s Homemade Ice Cream! Everyone got crafty and carved cartoons, flowers, birds, butterflies, snail mail notes, dogs, and more. We just got in these terrific journals from Hear Your Story Books. They’re getting-to-know-you books that ask all sorts of questions that you may not have thought of, and it helps parents and grandparents recollect awesome old memories they haven’t thought about in awhile. There are both English and Spanish editions. It’s a great way to get different generations talking. One time, I asked my folks asking what they liked for entertainment when they were my age. It was super similar (live concerts and comedy shows). We’re not so different. These books feel like that.
