From Michael Bertiaux’s *Direct Experience* series~

The completion of this work spans nearly four and a half decades in the evolution of Bertiaux’s current, encapsulating his direct initiatory experiences in Haiti  from 1962–63 with his primary mentor and initiator, Dr. Hector-François Jean-Maine.

Michael’s esoteric experiences were recorded in his journals and, as referenced in his oral teachings and writings, brought into visual form through his paintings.

At times, the process was immediate: a ritual initiation or séance would take place; the members would share their experiences; Michael would record them and then create a painting based upon his individual and collective experiences. The painting could then return to the group in the next session, where it became an object of meditation before another ritual séance.

This process, documented in Ontological Graffiti, reveals something essential about Michael’s paintings: they are not simply illustrations of an occult experience. ~~ They are part of the experience itself.

This painting was begun in the late 1960s, as supported thru direct transmissions, meditations and personal journal entries. This work evolved over time before being completed in 2013.

As Michael's magical current continued to unfold in Chicago, a city rich with Haitian history, it was carried forward upon those threads first encountered in Haiti within the lineage of Voudon Gnosticism.

This painting depicts and becomes Michael's "web” and the “threads of spirits” correspondences ~ weaving a metaphysical web connecting disparate currents into an occult harmony. In Bertiaux’s adept vision, consciousness becomes a living web through which the magician connects with other worlds, dimensions, and forms of spiritual experience.

The magician becomes the spider, joining himself “through the web of his consciousness” to different parts of spiritual experience, as each ritual action extends that web into other worlds and dimensions.

The Trimurti — Goddesses of the Past, Present, and Future

Michael Bertiaux has worked with the Norns and the mysteries of time for over half a century, and The Trimurti continues a sacred thread in his magical art.

The three Norns are the mysterious female powers associated with the unfolding of fate~ what has been, what is becoming, and what is yet to come. Michael brings these three aspects together as the goddesses of the past, present, and future.

Here, these three aspects have been attuned by Michael to bring protection and prosperity.

And then, up on the left, is a protecting fort over a city.

As Michael describes:

“That is so that a little city in a valley would have protection, and have a strength of MARS and of SATURN to withhold any attack on it.

And it's to make a little city that's the size of a little orange become big and grand.”

There is something especially magical about this small city: a little world in a valley, placed beneath the protection of Mars and Saturn, given the strength to withstand attack and the power to become prosperous.

The goddess, the Norn of the present, Michael describes as having “a warming embrace of the goddess,” as a friend, “but at the same time somewhat feline.”

A painting of the Norns ~the powers of past, present, and future ~and a little city being given protection, strength, and the possibility of becoming something greater.
