Andersonville Arts Weekend is next weekend! Our featured artist this year is Saju Makes!
Saju’s artistic practice explores what it means to live between worlds—grounded in the physical, everyday reality while reaching toward spiritual, intuitive, and unseen dimensions. Their work centers feeling, dreaming, and imagination as essential ways of knowing and as forms of resistance to systems that disconnect us from our bodies, our inner lives, and our sense of possibility.
Moving between intimate sketches of their surroundings and highly abstract, non-representational work, Saju uses art to process an often overwhelming and harsh world. This movement between the recognizable and the imagined reflects a larger duality in their practice: one foot in survival, the other in imagination and transcendence.
Saju draws from sensory experience, nature, lived experience, and spiritual reflection, seeking to create moments of calm, wonder, joy, and rest. Deeply committed to authenticity, Saju’s practice resists a surface-obsessed world and looks instead toward the deeper truths held within the subconscious, the natural world, the body, and lived experience. Their work is grounded in a belief in art’s capacity to heal, to reconnect us with ourselves and one another, and to open pathways toward greater balance, meaning, and social change.
