Labor Day honors the people whose hands make things.
Long before furniture became something we could order with a click and replace a few years later, it represented an incredible amount of human labor.
Someone selected the wood. Someone milled it. Someone cut the joinery. Someone carved the details. Someone turned the legs. Someone upholstered the seat. Someone finished it by hand.
Labor Day grew out of a movement in the late 1800s to recognize the dignity and value of American workers, including the skilled tradespeople and craftsmen who built so much of what we still treasure today.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons we love old furniture so much.
Every worn edge, hand-cut joint and carved detail is evidence that somebody worked hard to make something worth keeping.
This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the hands behind the things that lasted. 🇺🇸
