I am blessed to know some pretty incredible people, and my connection to Kenya is one of the biggest blessings in my life.
For close to 15 years I’ve had a connection to the tiny, rural community of Lowangila, Kenya, through two amazing friends of mine who lived there - Alan and Leah. Because of health reasons, Alan and Leah had to return to the U.S. four years ago, but they left their hearts in Lowangila. Leah passed away three years ago after battling cancer, and Alan remains in the U.S. due to health challenges, although his heart and prayers remain with his friends and neighbors in Lowangila.
My hope since then has been to try to connect some of my faithful Kenyan friends to the community of Lowangila, and over the last couple years I’ve been watching it happen. We have gotten to where these wonderful friends of mine have developed relationships with each other and with the pastor of the church of Lowangila, and they are committed to seeing how they can be involved in blessing and serving the people there.
So many of you are interested in what is going on in Kenya, and are involved with helping meet the needs there. You donate, you support this business, and you purchase Kenyan-made products. I’m so grateful for you.
For those of you who pray, would you please keep these friends in mind, along with the people of Lowangila and the surrounding communities? Good things are happening.

I am so grateful for all of our friends and customers who support our business, purchase products made in Kenya, and even generously donate toward important needs in this place that means so much. I’ve just had the opportunity to once again travel to the tiny community of Lowangila, Kenya, with friends who are conducting skills training with the women there. We are hoping that these trainings will encourage the development of home-based businesses to generate income for families. This is such a huge need. I can’t express how grateful I am for these people, and for those of you who are helping to make this happen.

Another beautiful day in Kenya, doing one of the things I love best - buying unique, hand-crafted items from artisans I care about. I have been purchasing soapstone carvings from my friend Olpha (pictured here in her shop alongside her husband), for some time, and I made sure to load up on more of her lovely angels, hearts and animals. I also love shopping at Amani ya Juu, a wonderful organization that employs refugee women from around East Africa. Many of the gorgeous bags and fabric items in the shop are from Amani ya Juu (‘Peace from Above’). I need to get all this shopping in quick before I head out to rural Kenya with longtime friends. 🇰🇪❤️

Day one back in Kenya 🇰🇪, seeing old friends and making new. Today I was able to reconnect with an artisan who was just a kid tagging along with her mom when I started buying hand-made items from her mom many years ago. Now mom’s retired and she’s taken over the business… yes, I feel old. Here’s a preview of what will be heading to Christian & Johnson very soon… ❤️
