Yesterday's plant was a bleeding heart. This flower is great for some pollinators, but not for honey bees since they have a difficult time reaching the pollen and nectar! You may often see this flower in decorative beds in late spring. Come back next week for another plant to identify!

We are having an open apiary on Saturday, August 27th, from 9 am until 11 am. The open apiary is free through the Great Plains Master Beekeeping Program.
If you would like to attend, contact us by phone or email to sign up (660-214-0132 or [email protected]). Please also complete a free enrollment in the Great Plains Master Beekeeping Program (https://gpmb.unl.edu/become-member). Having participants enrolled helps with insurance.
At this meeting, we plan to cover general hive inspections, varroa mite testing, and queen marking if time allows.
The tentative schedule for the other open apiaries this season is:

Yesterday's plant was goldenrod. This flower is a great food source for honey bees and commonly grows in Missouri! But the honey that the pollen produces has a super pungent smell. Come back next week for another plant to identify!
