I didn't know this about Dolly Parton, but I think I love her just by learning she employed handmade crafters at Dollywood to show the public live demonstration of many fiber arts.
During my 10 plus year journey with crochet and creating with my hands, I have learned that there is so much more to the craft than just reducing crochet down to making a useful physical piece. I think Dolly understood this and wanted to support a craft that can be easily discarded with all the advancements that we have in technology these days.
Anything that you chose to make comes from an idea and you are creating that idea into physical form. It is an art, a creation; using your talents, time, and knowledge to transform a physical object into another form.
The past handful of years have been a rough journey for me, but my crochet has been my constant. I have found a love for creating (not just crochet) that I never thought was possible. The message that I received was that it was just a hobby and not practical, especially when it comes to selling my pieces.
So much has inspired me this year to radically step into creating more in many different realms and also creating community.
Learning more about the life Dolly lived gives me inspiration for my own life and my craft. Expect to see more shared on this page. Crochet, yes, but much more. Live your life for you, not anyone else's expectations.
And if you feel called, share your thoughts to engage with others or share with someone who you think may resonate.
We are all here to help each other walk home. You never know how much a person impacts you until they are no longer physically with us. Rest easy Dolly.
