Alright, folks. We’ve got some news to share from Team UUA, and while we’ll have more to say in a bit, we’d like BC’s words to speak first 💙
“These last five years have been pretty great. Working at UP UP & AWAY! has no doubt been the gig of a lifetime. It's not lost on me that every shift I work, I’m surrounded by the best curated comic stock this side of Metropolis.
Hand’s down, Kendall, Andrew, and Kelsey work their butts off to make our shops great, and it’s been an honor to work alongside them in the knock-down-dragout industry of comic book retail. You gotta hustle everyday to make it in this biz, often one book at a time. These folks taught me much about how to show up everyday and make it happen. I’ll be forever grateful for the chance to have worked for such a great local business. It’s been a whole lotta fun!
That being said, my last day at UP UP & AWAY! will be this Friday, August 14th – five years to the day from my first shift on that weird COVID FCBD in August ‘21. What an odyssey it’s been. I’ve learned a ton and had a blast, but I’m bowing out to fight the good fight in other areas of life. Well over a year ago, I was approached by my faith community with an opportunity to lead efforts to put some good back into the neighborhood by serving folks who need real help during this time. After mulling it over these many months, I realized I couldn’t pass up such a great opportunity, so I’ve decided to accept the challenge.
I’ve tried to tell as many of you as possible in person, but I know I’ve missed quite a few of you. Please know that I appreciate each and every one of you. Getting to talk about life and comics each week in person and on the podcast has been awesome. Thanks for a great time.
Don’t worry, I’ll still be around as I’m able. Y'all know I can’t quit this comic habit that easily.
