In 2008, The Wooden Lion Toy Company started from a basic problem, the need for quality, heirloom toys that were not plastic or battery powered. Being new parents for less than a year at that time, my wife and I found that there was a severe lack of toys that would encourage the building of imagination and creativity in children without the beeps and boops that are found in almost all toys today.
I started off just designing and building toys for my daughter but also wanted to share them with my friends and family as unique gifts as they were having children of their own at the same time. After they saw the love and thought put into each toy they expressed great appreciation for such a thoughtful gift and that is what drove me to start The Wooden Lion Toy Company. In the beginning I started with some basic designs that I created like the ring stack and safari animals. But, over the years there have been many design changes thanks to the help of my R & D department, also known as my children. I now offer over 20 different toys and plan on continuing to grow each and every year with new, unique and interesting designs. As I have seen my business grow and change throughout the years, my toys and my talent have gained great appreciation from customers who hanker for the same things my wife and I did when this great adventure began. With that fuel and the reaction that a child has when they take one of my toys and I see the joy in their face I am inspired to do this. Our children need these toys to help them develop the imagination that we all had growing up. It seems that children are ingrained with technology at birth, knowing how to work phones and tablets before they are two. But they are also just as creative, curious, and imaginative and in need of REAL play and my toys encourage and enable their imagination.
