We are incredibly proud to announce that Turpin Farms is a 2026 Ohio Conservation Farm Family Award winner! 🏆

This honor means so much to our family and our entire team. We’re grateful to be recognized for our commitment to conservation, stewardship, and caring for the land we’ve been fortunate enough to farm for generations. To celebrate this special achievement, we will be closed on September 24th so that all of our employees can be together at Farm Science to accept the award!

Check out this excellent article from Turf Magazine on summer sod installation!
https://turfmagazine.com/summer-sod-installation-heat-water-timing/

The article highlights several great practices for summer success:
✅ Minimize the time sod sits on pallets, especially in direct sun.
✅ Ensure the site is fully prepared before delivery.
✅ Create good sod-to-soil contact for faster rooting.
✅ Monitor irrigation carefully, don't assume water is soaking through the turf and reaching the ground underneath
✅ Schedule installations during cooler morning hours whenever possible.
✅ Communicate watering and maintenance expectations clearly with clients.

Summer instillations aren't impossible, they just take more care!

A great read for landscape professionals, contractors, and anyone working with sod during the summer months.

Summer sod installation has always required attention to detail, but summer conditions make every part of the process more important.

It's that time of year again where the weather creates the perfect storm for brown patch in your lawn.

🦠 What is Brown Patch?
Brown patch is an airborne fungus that loves hot, humid conditions—especially overnight. Targeting tall fescue lawns.
👀 What to Watch For:
Early signs can be spotted in the morning dew—look for what appears to be spider webbing. At this stage, it's treatable with fungicide. But once it develops into brown patches, those damaged areas will need to be replaced. 😬
✅ Prevention Tips:
✔️ Water between 10 AM and 5 PM (yes, it's okay to water during the day as long as you're not creating puddles in the lawn!)
✔️ Avoid fertilizing during high heat
✔️ Stay vigilant and act early

Keeping your lawn green and healthy is possible, even in extreme heat, with the right care and timing. If you have questions or need help treating or preventing brown patch, we’re here to help!
