I have raised thousands of dollars for Asian Business Association Inland Empire in the last couple of years. I wrote a book on networking. This guy was arguing with me that you don't need a wide professional and social contact base. His argument was that it is better to focus on a few people you care about.
The reason why most people are not successful in getting new customers, finding a new job, getting a date and finding a life partner is simply because they don't have enough touches. They will find every excuse why they are too busy to make new contacts and invest in relationships. When I ask them what are you busy doing all day? All of a sudden, they couldn't answer me.
