Kirk has loved rocks & minerals since he was a child. His wife, Janel, also shares a passion for stones and jewelry making. Since there are very few rock shops in Iowa, we decided to follow our passion and offer the opportunity for you to come to a rock shop and experience specimens from around the world and purchase for your own collection, display, and metaphysical needs. Those that self collect rocks & minerals are frequently referred to as rock hounds. We have owned six basset hounds since we have been married and came up with the name Hound Dog Rock Shop. We want people of all ages to be excited in what Mother nature has created. The amazing thing is that no two stones are alike. These are NOT landscaping stones or gravel you place in a driveway. We invite you to come in and take a look and explore our Rock Shop and the wonderful community of Clarence, IA.

Hound Dog Rock Shop is CLOSED until Friday, September 18th for a buying trip.

The biggest venue at the Denver Rock and Gem shows opens tomorrow and the van is about half full already.

Hound Dog Rock Shop is CLOSED until Friday, September 18th for a buying trip.

The Denver shows aren't even officially open until starting on Thursday, but with a VIP pass and early access to another show, the past two days have been a rockin'.

The long piece wrapped in a packing blanket is an amazing 6 foot tall, 275 -300 lbs. (estimated) Orthoceras Tower from Morocco.

Botryoidal (bots/grape like clusters) Bumblebee Jasper from Mount Papandayan, West Java, Indonesia. This is the only current known location for Bumblebee Jasper. The back matrix on these Freeforms are polished smooth.

Caribbean Calcite is a trade name but consists of blue/green Calcite and white/brown Aragonite.

The colorations of the Caribbean Sea come to mind but this material is not found in the Caribbean.
