🌹 Roseville Pottery: Spotlight 🌹

Incorporated in 1892 in Roseville, Ohio Roseville Pottery started out making primarily artistic garden accessories. Starting in 1896 they shifted focus to their “Vase Assortments” as they called them which was a line of relief-molded French-inspired majolica vases. These were commonly used as premium giveaway items at grocery stores and are very difficult to locate today.

Over the years, Roseville has had a multitude of different Art Directors. All of which were famous or infamous in their own ways. However, everything changed when Frank Ferrell stepped into his role of Art Director in 1918. In his thirty years as Art Director Frank designed nearly 100 lines and thousands of shapes for Roseville. Franks work is some of the most daughters after pieces and the designs can vary wildly- meaning there’s a piece of Roseville that will appeal to anyone.

With the rise of Japanese imports becoming cheaper and more prevalent, Roseville struggled to survive but managed to stay in production until 1954. Where it sold to New England Ceramic Company who then sold it to Franklin Potteries of Franklin, West Virginia.

Pictured is some of the pieces we have for sale right now in the shop. See something you like? Stop in or give us a call for pricing!

This is a hard post to make, but we wanted to share the news of Bill’s passing. Almost 21 years ago Bill, his wife Elisabeth, and his daughter Jennifer (that’s me) took on a former fraternity house because they wanted to rescue the house and open a bookstore/antique store.

Having the shop happily kept my dad busy after his retirement from the university. It became a great way for former students to find him as well as a way to meet new people. He loved sharing his interest in history, especially military history, with anyone who would listen. His other big interest was coins and enjoyed growing the selection of coins over the years…hoping to have something for every level of collector.

The Fulmer House was also a great way for him to continue to learn, he never stopped wanting to know more. From identifying old marbles, figuring out the age of a bottle, to hearing stories from customers.

While he turned the business over to Jennifer several years ago, he stayed a part of the shop and doing what he could to help make sure our customers enjoyed their visit to the Fulmer House.

💛💙
