We are incredibly honored and grateful to share that we have purchased the equipment from the Howard family and will be carrying forward a piece of West Virginia's chocolate-making history.

For 42 years, the Howard family built and operated a beloved Candy Factory that became part of the fabric of our community. Even after Mr. Howard's passing three years ago, the legacy of his craftsmanship, dedication, and passion for making quality confections has remained deeply respected by all who knew him and his work.

From the beginning, our goal at Cornerstone Candy has been about more than opening a candy store—it has been about preserving a tradition. Being entrusted with the equipment and heritage of the Howard family's Candy Factory is a responsibility we do not take lightly. We are committed to honoring the decades of hard work, knowledge, and pride that came before us.

We are also deeply thankful for the guidance and support we have received from both the Wolfe and Howard families. Their willingness to share their experience, wisdom, and encouragement has been invaluable as we prepare for this next chapter.

Because of the foundation laid by these remarkable families, Cornerstone Candy is positioned to become something truly special. We look forward to building on their legacy, keeping West Virginia's chocolate-making history alive, and creating new memories for generations to come.

🍭 Cornerstone Candy Opening Soon! 🍭

The countdown is on! We are getting very close to opening our doors, and we couldn't be more excited to share this sweet adventure with our community.

Although candy manufacturing is not yet in full swing, we are gearing up to host our first event; a few final pieces of equipment are pending delivery and then... it's candy and chocolate making time!

Today, we pay tribute to Staff Sergeant Richard J. Swiger by dedicating our building in his honor. Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he sacrificed his life in battle, saving hundreds, if not thousands, of troops by redirecting his tank and two others after they had cleared the danger zone. This maneuver enabled the tanks to unleash substantial firepower against the enemy, facilitating the safe evacuation of all ground troops. Tragically, his tank was struck by an Rocket Propelled Gr***de, resulting in his death. Staff Sergeant Swiger's actions are a testament to his heroism. On this occasion, the Merchant National Bank building is now officially designated as the Staff Sergeant Richard J. Swiger Building, and we take pride in occupying it. Happy Memorial Day!

🍭While this might seem chaotic to outsiders, it represents a long-awaited milestone for us. The kitchen and candy production area is complete. With our own candy and chocolate making stage for all to see. The soda and ice cream station is almost finished. The Wonka Vault is completed. The $5 candy vault is nearly done. After 3 months of extensive renovation, our concept is starting to come to life.

A late night is underway at the candy shop, where M&N Pressure Washing are undertaking a soft wash of the building's exterior in preparation for sealing, and will then install exterior lighting to make the building shine day and night. Clarksburg is coming back to life with a lot of fun and smiles starting right here at Cornerstone Candy.

Updates: It only gets sweeter!

🇺🇸 We are thrilled to reveal that the building is being renamed after a Clarksburg native and veteran who lost his life in Vietnam. There will be an unveiling event in the near future.

🇺🇸 Furthermore, the 2nd floor of this building will dedicated to a history timeline exhibit starting from civil war to the present day, recognizing the valiant sacrifices and accomplishments of men and women who have severed from our hometowns in North Central West Virginia. Tours will be free for all those who visit.

One sign is currently installed, with additional exterior work scheduled for next week. Progress is underway, albeit at a slightly slower pace than anticipated. We've quickly learned that 100 year old banks were build as fortresses and not meant to be modified easily. Hang in there with us. Its coming!

Cornerstone update:

Progress is slow as we continue to bring the building back to original and layout our floor plan. Waiting on a lot of our equipment to get delivered so we can start setting up. We are still on target for a May opening but may push back until the roads are completed in downtown.

Field trip to learn about some of the new chocolate technology being created from Selmi, a prominent Italian manufacturer specializing in advanced machinery for processing chocolate, nuts, coffee, and confectionery.
