Last weekend we parted out the Starry Night set. Last night someone bought both the mini fig and miniature painting from that set. I'm almost a little sad to see them go so fast. I'd love to know what they are building with them. I can imagine a cool habitat with Vincent van Gogh painting.

My desk was quite the mess over the long weekend. There was more sorting of our latest bulk buy, listing of some of the cleaned pieces including a variety of 2 by X bricks, and today a part out of a new "The Starry Night" set. Over 2500 items were added to the store this weekend!

It's always fun to see what treasures we will find in used Lego lots. We were able to pull 15 complete mini figs out of our recent purchases. These will be coming to the store over the next couple days after going through a check under our magnifying light. We're still waiting to see if we can finish out a few other mini figs as we complete our sort. I'd love to find the cape for this Batman!

Today Mom is updating our color pallette. While most of our inventory is new pieces we do also carry some used pieces. We have found building a color pallette useful in checking to make sure we have the right color identified on our used pieces. As a builder, the pallette also helps in figuring out colors that will work together on builds or if you aren't quite sure of the color of your piece. There is also something satisfying about seeing the colors condensed into this format!

The new column of drawers has been added to the store. We had to add a small shelf to make space for it to sit. The store's capacity has definitely grown. Since these were put in we were able to part out another set that had been sitting around waiting for space to open up. We will be parting out more soon!

When we started the store we didn't secure the drawers beyond stacking them on top of each other, which they are made to do. Mom was paranoid about drawers falling over as the top set would get wobbly if someone walked close to them. We didn't want to add holes to the wall to secure them with screws or build a wooden frame. After some thought we decided to give the 3M Command Velcro strips used for hanging pictures a try. This has made the drawers incredibly stable and still allows for easy movement when wanting to move the drawers around with no wall damage. We just make sure each drawer has strips in the same location. We're sharing in case someone out there had a similar problem in the hopes they'll find it useful!

Ever wondered what storage of just over 80,000 pieces of Lego looks like? Here is what it is for us at Dad Brick It. When we opened our store we had 3 columns of drawers and a couple of pencil & bead boxes for mini figs and accessories. Our storage has increased over the past six months with more drawers, boxes and shoe sized bins. This week we are adding another column of drawers. We'll be sharing the new addition soon. The goal is to get to 100,000 items in the store over the next few months.

It's the end of the month which means Mom is spending time not only doing paperwork and financials but also looking at stats. We've seen growth this month both in orders and in the states we've shipped to since we opened our store in February. This month we added an additional 4 states to our "shipped to" list with ID, KY, ME & NC. It's fun to watch that map fill while wondering how long it will take to get all the states filled in!

If you've ever wondered what a 100+ lot order looks like when picked here is an order we received this evening with 101 lots. It's all ready for QC before being packed up and shipped out tomorrow. It is fun to wonder about what will be built from the orders we receive.

Parting out three copies of set 31154 this evening to put into the store. I think if I were going to build this set it would have to be the squirrel. He even has his own little acorn! Which one would you choose?

It's a show weekend in our family which means Dad is in Nashville at Brick Fan Expo displaying with our two oldest sons whose love of Lego has continued into adulthood. You can see how the airport has grown and changed a bit since last time. We hope you enjoy the pictures!

We don't just sell Lego pieces, we also build. Here are some snapshots of a build Dad started earlier this year that keeps improving with each show. It's been a family effort for this one!

We had to change plans on our next part out as the chess set part out is still pending inventory approval on BrickLink. Instead we parted out three copies of set 77013 which had an interesting mix of parts. I loved the amount of tan and bright light orange pieces in this set!
