🌞 Summer Heat Stress: What to Look for on Your Plants 🌿
The Arkansas heat can be tough on plants. Knowing the signs of heat stress can help save your landscape!
☀️ Wilting Leaves – Plants may wilt during the hottest part of the day. If they don’t recover by evening, they likely need water.
🍂 Brown or Crispy Leaf Edges – A common sign of heat scorch or underwatering.
💛 Yellowing Leaves – Can indicate too much water, too little water, or root stress.
🌸 Dropping Flowers or Buds – Many annuals and shrubs will shed blooms during extreme heat to conserve energy.
🌱 Curled or Rolled Leaves – Plants curl their leaves to reduce water loss.
🔥 Sunburned Leaves – White, tan, or brown patches can develop on leaves exposed to intense afternoon sun.
🐛 Check for Pests – Heat-stressed plants are more susceptible to spider mites, aphids, and other insects.
💧 Water the Right Way
• Water early in the morning.
• Water deeply, not lightly.
• Add 2–3 inches of mulch to help retain moisture.
• Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day.
