Check out this 1:20.3 scale railroad built by one of our customers!

"PINE RIDGE RR is a 1/20.3 G scale garden railroad with a Northern Wisconsin back woods theme. We haul lumber, general frieght, and a few local passengers. Based around 1920 to 1939 Steam locos, mostly geared, shop built cars, and backwoods ingenuity keep things moving."

I have been working on a fun custom project for a customer, of a switching layout based on a Sanborn fire map of a Black Hawk, CO industry yard. Part of the layout required a compact ladder turnout to lead to a few yard tracks. 1:20.3 scale switch stands will be installed at a later date. The whole unit is about 82"long! -Mike

I quickly whipped up a drilling jig for the 1/8" holes needed for the tie plate plugs and it worked out pretty well. I planned on the jig making the gauge 32.4mm since that is the max for course O Gauge standards, but it ended up really being 32.2mm which is right in the middle of the minimum and maximum gauge, so I suppose that works out pretty well.

Due to some recent customer inquiries about the 1:20.3 scale tie plate with plug that we used to sell a while back, I have added it back to our catalog and they are again available for purchase on our website. They are the same price as our tie plates with the flat bottom, $25.00 per 100pcs.

These plates are made of the same UV stabilized injection molded plastic as our tie strips and feature a plug with a diameter is slightly under 1/8" so that they can fit into a 1/8"drilled hole in either wooden sleepers, our 1:20.3 scale turnout ties, or 1:20.3 scale tie strips.

Some uses for these plugs include creating your own panel track with wood sleepers or to convert our 45mm gauge flex track into dual gauge by drilling a hole and gluing these tie plate plugs in to set a desired second track gauge.

Our current line of rail with a ~5mm wide rail base will slip into these tie plate plugs.

Check out this great project in northern Delaware at Auburn Valley State Park, home of the Marshall Steam Museum. We are thrilled to be involved, providing the track and pointwork for the planned Gauge 1 live steam layout.

Please visit www.auburnheights.org/gauge1 to learn more about the project.

What's next on the horizon for Auburn Heights? A quarter century ago, on February 11, 1997, our founder Tom Marshall held a special meeting that gave birth to the Marshall Steam Team. Marking that anniversary, another special meeting (via Zoom) will be held on February 12, 2022 to share plans for a new era in live steam at Auburn Heights. Join to learn about the Gauge 1 Live Steam railroad, meet the team, discover current plans and provide input in this exciting endeavor.

Learn more and sign up for the meeting at Auburnheights.org/Gauge1. All attendees will be entered for a chance to win a new PIKO Reading ( #38851) Steel Box Car!

One example of a four switch order of 1:20.3 high detail turnouts going out this weekend. They feature the use of tie plates, detailed check rail castings, a switch stand, and the customer's choice of paint on the rail sides. This example has extended head block ties to allow the wide Accucraft K-class locos clearance. -Mike
