What's the Best Upgrade You Can Make to a Guitar?

Most players immediately think pickups, tuners, pedals, or a new amp.

But after working on thousands of guitars, we've found the biggest improvement usually comes from something much less glamorous:

A professional setup.

Proper neck relief, nut height, saddle height, level, properly-crowned frets and intonation can completely change how a guitar feels and sounds.

We've seen expensive guitars that were frustrating to play and inexpensive guitars that played beautifully.

The difference wasn't the price tag.

It was the setup.

Time for our annual "Hot Car Reminder" -

A Hot Car Can Do More Damage Than You Think

Most guitar players know heat is bad for guitars—but many underestimate just how quickly damage can occur.

On a warm day, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can climb dramatically in a short period of time. That heat can affect glues, finishes, wood, and plastics.

Common heat-related problems include:

✔️ High action from neck movement
✔️ Lifted acoustic bridges
✔️ Cracked or cloudy finishes
✔️ Loose bindings
✔️ Electronics issues

The frustrating part? Many of these problems don't show up immediately. A guitar may seem fine when you take it out of the car, only to develop issues days later.

🛠 Care Tip: If your guitar has been exposed to excessive heat, don't immediately start adjusting the truss rod or bridge. Let the instrument return to normal room temperature first, then evaluate it.
