It really is a small world. While exploring a remote and undeveloped barrier island in Florida off of Cedar Key, we met Dave Clark, (pictured in the yellow shirt) Professor of Horticultural Biotechnology & Genetics in the Environmental Horticulture Department at the University of Florida!
Dave and a few others were there planting native dune grasses on the island to help stabilize the sand and prevent erosion during storms. Of course the conversation turned to plants and we learned that Dave is responsible for breeding hundreds of varieties of Coleus at UF, many of which we offer at Full Bloom!
Dave is co-founder of ReCedar Key, a non-profit grassroots organization that works to restore the Cedar Key islands ecosystem with native trees and plants.
If you have Coleus in your yard, chances are good it’s because Dave developed them.
We hope you’re enjoying your summer and we’ll see you in the fall.
