Before there was a Coastie standing the watch, there was probably a mom helping them get there.
The encouragement, the sacrifices, the worry, the pride… it never really stops.

Today we’re celebrating all the Coast Guard moms out there. The moms serving in uniform, the moms holding things together back home, and the moms who proudly raised Coasties.

Thank you for everything you do behind the scenes and beyond the spotlight. Happy Mother’s Day from the Puddle Pirate crew. ⚓️

Drop a line below and wish her a Happy Mother’s Day or, if you’re a Coastie mom, tell us what your plans are today!

Welcome to Cleveland, USS Cleveland.

And to the Coasties standing the watch on the lake year-round… we see you, Station Cleveland. 🫡

Different uniforms. Same waterways. Same long watches, cold days, and maritime traditions.

Question for the comments:
What’s the first thing a visiting Navy crew should learn about Coast Guard life on the Great Lakes? 👇

Some sailors carried luck. Others earned it.

The tradition of the Pig & Hen traces back to old sailors tattooing pigs and hens, or some roosters, on their feet, believing they’d help them survive rough seas and make it home. Whether it was superstition, hope, or just stubbornness… the meaning stuck.

The new Pig & Rooster drop is built for the ones who know what it means to head out before sunrise, trust the crew beside you, and keep pushing through whatever the water throws at you.

The Coast Guard just awarded a $400 million contract to modernize and expand Training Center Cape May, the only current enlisted starting point in the service. Pretty wild knowing how many Coasties started their journey there.

Now the real question…

What’s your favorite memory from Cape May?

And we all know the answer wasn’t the Crud.

Most people probably don’t realize how important Kearneysville, West Virginia already is to the Coast Guard.

Now it’s becoming even more important.

The Coast Guard selected Kearneysville as the headquarters for the new Special Missions Command, building on a location that already supports major service-wide IT, computing, communications, and logistics operations.

It also sits next to the West Virginia Air National Guard, creating a unique hub for coordination, support, and mission readiness.

For years, a lot of the work happening there has quietly helped keep the Coast Guard moving behind the scenes. Now the spotlight gets a little brighter.

Feels like another sign the Coast Guard is continuing to evolve beyond what most people think the service does.

What do you think the future of Coast Guard special missions looks like over the next 10 years?

Not all Coast Guard traditions started in the Coast Guard.

Some came from sailors who learned things the hard way.

The pig and hen go way back. Sailors tattooed them on their feet because those animals were often shipped in wooden crates and could float if a ship went down.

It became a simple belief. If everything went bad out there, you still had a chance of making it home.

Different era, same mindset.

We do not rely on luck, but we respect where we came from. And everyone who stands the watch understands what it means to get back safe.

Tradition. Grit. Coming home.

….Pig and Rooster. Same spirit, just louder.

New Drop Coming Soon.

Only Coasties can turn “we’re short-handed” into a personality trait. Small crews teach you to trust faster, work smarter, and laugh harder. That puddle pirate life builds a different kind of pride.

What’s one lesson you learned from being in a small crew? Tag a shipmate who always pulled more than their share.

Air Station Kodiak: Four people. Moving ice. Near-zero visibility. And Coasties still got the job done. That’s the kind of grit the public rarely sees—but we know it well.

It’s playoff season, so we figured it was the right time to bring some Coast Guard hockey history back to life. Our two newest designs in the Latest Designs collection pay tribute to the roots of CG hockey dating back to 1942—when the service fielded a team of its own.
Old-school heritage. Ice-level grit. New gear just dropped. Find these under our "Latest Designs" collection.
