The Sankofa Black Art Expo is back!

And this one has a little history behind it. The original Sankofa Fine Art Expo ran in Cleveland from 2001-2011, bringing Black artists, collectors, and art lovers together. Now, 15 years later, it’s coming back to Shaker Square during Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival!!

And Jerome White is coming full circle with it. Jerome was part of the original Expo and is the featured artist for its 2026 return. A painter, muralist, and longtime Cleveland art educator, his work has always been rooted in storytelling, community, and Black life.

The sun will be shining, the animals are ready, and we’re gearing up for a perfect summer expedition at Shaker Square! Join us on Tuesday, August 18, for this FREE family event filled with wild encounters, music, games, treats and plenty of fun for the whole family.

Your Safari Schedule:

• 5 PM: A 45-minute live animal adventure with Outback Ray – followed by a very special opportunity to snap a photo with Sponge Bob, the albino Burmese python! 🐍

• 5-6 PM: A very special visitor will be stopping by to visit with the business owners and community at Shaker Square – Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb!

• 6:15 PM: Jesse Jukebox takes the stage for a 45-minute live musical experience where kids can be kids – and grown-ups can join in the fun, too!

🌿 All-Afternoon Safari Fun!

🎲 Lawn Games – Challenge the family to a friendly game on the greens.

🎨 5-7 PM: Transform into your favorite safari animal or character with FREE face painting!

🍋 5-7 PM: Fresh-squeezed lemonade and kettle corn available for purchase.

🍦 6-7:30 PM: Ice Cream Social! Grab a FREE scoop of ice cream* from Shaker Square tenant Café Indigo, featuring two premium flavors.

🌞 One more summer night on Shaker Square! 🎶

It has been an incredible summer of music, energy, and community at Shaker Square. Week after week, you’ve filled the greens with dancing, laughter, neighbors, friends, and the unmistakable spirit of togetherness that makes these summer evenings so special. THANK YOU, Shaker Square neighbors and friends!

But we are not finished yet. There is one more concert to gather and dance together!

We’re closing out the Shaker Square Summer Concert Series with the incredible Jasmin Jeanise. Her musical stylings and powerful vocals will bring the energy, have you dancing and grooving, and giving this summer’s Concert Series the proper party send-off it deserves!

By wildly popular demand, we’re once again welcoming Outback Ray’s Amazing Animal Show to Shaker Square!

Get ready to meet some amazing animals up close, discover fascinating fun facts, and experience an afternoon of adventure with expert handler outbackrays.
