Long before he became Otis Campbell, the lovable town drunk on The Andy Griffith Show, actor Hal Smith (1916–1994) spent seven years living in Utica.
During that time, he worked at WIBX Radio while performing with local musicians. Those years helped pave the way for a career that would include more than 300 film and television roles, including the voice of Owl in Disney's Winnie the Pooh.
