Equipment Spotlight: Drum Mowers 🚜

A drum mower uses two large rotating drums equipped with free-swinging blades to cut hay. As the drums spin, they guide the cut crop into a clean swath behind the mower, ready for drying and baling.

One reason drum mowers remain popular is their simple design. Compared to many disc mowers, they typically have:

They're especially popular on small and mid-size farms because they can efficiently cut hay without requiring a large tractor. Some models can operate with as little as 21 PTO horsepower.

Many drum mowers also feature breakaway protection, allowing the mower to swing back if it encounters an obstacle, helping reduce the risk of damage to both the mower and tractor.
