In a world of texts, DMs, notifications, and endless scrolling, we’re inviting you to slow down.
Take a Sunday (or any day) to put down your phone and pick up a pen. The Sunday Letter Project is a way to disconnect from your screen and connect with someone you’ve never met. Someone somewhere is waiting to hear from you, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll make a new friend along the way.
Here’s how it works:
Start by writing an intro letter. Tell someone a little about yourself. Share what you’re thinking, what you’re loving, what you’re learning, what’s happening in your corner of the world, or whatever feels right.
Pick a participating shop from the Sunday Letter network and address your letter to them.
Drop your letter off at Almost Local, or mail it on your own using the shop’s address. We’ll become your Letter Keeper. If your letter finds a match, they’ll write back to the shop, care of you, and we’ll make sure it finds its way into your hands.
No algorithms, no likes, no read receipts. Just a piece of paper, maybe some little trinkets, a stranger somewhere out there, and the possibility of becoming friends.
So this week, take a little time to write. You never know who might be waiting on the other side of your letter.
Your first letter can start with: “Dear Penpal…”
