Thursday, August 27, 6:00 PM: Backcountry food tasting

Bighorn Mountain Food and Luxefly Basecamp are both sending meals up and we're sampling them at the shop.

Trying this stuff before you buy nine dinners' worth is the whole point. Freeze-dried food is a commitment - once you're ten miles in you're stuck with whatever you picked.

Bighorn is the one to look at if you're counting calories going up. 650 calories and 35 grams of protein a pouch, whole pieces of meat, with no preservatives.

Luxefly is a chef's operation. Sara Willis ran restaurants in Cabo and then in Oregon before she started freeze-drying, and she hand packs everything in Eugene out of Willamette Valley produce. Beef barbacoa tacos, huevos rancheros, chile rellenos, wild mushroom biscuits and gravy. She makes a tres leches cake too.

Come in and give them a shot!

Wyoming's public lands are at the heart of the Wyoming experience. In the next seven days, we get to vote - and it's never been more important than ever to make sure that we all understand what is at stake, and who we need to have in office to make sure that the lands that we love are protected now and into the future.

At Sunlight, we love that our community's shared love of these wild spaces that we live amongst bring together virtually everyone - and we are proud that we have customers from all backgounds, walks of life and beliefs that are part of that community. No matter what else might be different, our communal bond around what it means to be outside - hiking, riding, hunting or however else - means that we have friends that we share a passion with.

As you get ready to vote, take the time to make sure that you are supporting candidates whose words and past actions align with protecting our shared heritage - the landscapes that we love and are responsible for caring for.

A day on the upper end of Pebble Creek really is a dream day. Although the first mile out of the Warm Creek trailhead is a bit of a climb, it all pays off with excellent views - even before you get to one of the greatest mountain meadows on the planet.

Once you are there, take your time enjoying wildflowers, distant peaks, and isolation that feels much more profound than the short hike to get there would lead you to believe.

Find more with gear from and suggestions from Sunlit Trails, our locally-authored guide to almost 100 hikes in NW Wyoming and Yellowstone.

Wyoming created conservation districts in 1941, in response to the soil erosion of the Dust Bowl years. The Cody Conservation District organized the following year. Eighty-plus years later, three districts, Cody, Meeteetse, and Powell-Clarks Fork, split coverage of Park County's water, soil, and wildlife between them.

This Thursday, all three are coming to Sunlight Sports for trivia night. Come test what you know about the natural resources around Cody, and hear about the work these districts do to conserve them.

Pint Night runs 5 to 7 PM. Trivia runs 5:30 to 6:30.

This is part of our Pint Night series. Every Thursday, we offer complimentary b**r or non-alcoholic beverages to anyone with a Sunlight pint glass. Don't have one yet? You can purchase a limited-edition glass at the event. 100% of proceeds go directly to one of our five local nonprofit partners that get kids outside.

Thursday, July 30. Sunlight Sports, 1131 Sheridan Avenue.

Pint Night this week has Fjällräven in the shop, and they're putting $300 behind the Shoshone Backcountry Horsemen, the volunteer group that's kept horse and hiking trails cleared across the Shoshone National Forest since 1993. Members will be on hand to talk about the work and answer questions.

Fjällräven's also doing something really cool - setting up a waxing table. Starting at 6, they'll have the Keb trousers and other G-1000 gear out and walk through Greenland Wax: what it does, and how to work it into the fabric yourself. Bring your own G-1000 pieces if you've got them, they'll show you how to keep them going.

Pint Night runs 5 to 8 PM, Fjällräven from 6. Every Thursday, anyone with a Sunlight pint glass gets a complimentary b**r or non-alcoholic drink. Don't have one yet? Pick one up at the event. 100% of proceeds go to one of our five local nonprofit partners that get kids outside.

Fjällräven is coming to Pint Night on Thursday, July 23.

Starting at 6, they'll be walking through their Keb trousers and the G-1000 fabric they're built from, plus how to actually take care of them. That means Greenland Wax: what it is, why it beats replacing a pair of pants, and how to work it into the fabric yourself. If you own Fjällräven gear already, bring it by and they'll show you how to keep it going.

The Shoshone Backcountry Horsemen will be there too. They're the volunteer group that's kept horse and hiking trails cleared across the Shoshone National Forest since 1993, and they'll be on hand to talk about the work and answer questions. Fjällräven is donating $300 to support it.

Pint Night runs 5 to 8 PM. Every Thursday, anyone with a Sunlight pint glass gets a complimentary b**r or non-alcoholic drink. Don't have one yet? Pick one up at the event. 100% of proceeds go to one of our five local nonprofit partners that get kids outside.
