Meet Dihydromyrcenol — better known as DHM.

If you love fresh fragrances, there’s a good chance you’ve experienced what this aroma material can do without ever knowing its name.

DHM has a bright, clean, citrusy and almost freshly-showered character. It’s especially useful in fresh, aquatic and aromatic compositions.

But DHM isn’t just about making something smell “fresh.”

It can bring lift, energy and brightness to a fragrance, helping create that crisp burst you experience right from the opening.

And just like the other materials we’ve covered, dose matters.

Used thoughtfully, DHM can make a fragrance feel brighter, cleaner and more alive. Push it too far and that freshness can become sharp or even detergent-like.

At Hall Fragrance Co., materials like DHM give us another way to shape how a fragrance feels and develops — without simply adding more fragrance oil.

What does Ambroxan actually do in fragrance? 🧪

If you wear modern fragrances, chances are you’ve smelled Ambroxan — even if you didn’t know it.

Ambroxan is an aroma material inspired by compounds found in ambergris, and it’s become incredibly common in modern perfumery.

Its scent can come across as warm, dry, woody, musky, mineral and ambery — but what makes Ambroxan especially useful is what it can do for the rest of a fragrance.

It can add depth, diffusion and persistence, helping give a fragrance structure while creating that smooth, lingering drydown that seems to hang around on skin and clothing.

But like most aroma materials, more doesn’t automatically mean better.

Too much can overpower a composition. Used thoughtfully, it can support everything around it and help a fragrance feel fuller and last longer.

At Hall Fragrance Co., materials like Ambroxan are part of how we experiment with not only how a fragrance smells, but how it projects, develops and performs.

NEW PICKUP ♠️ Game of Spades Bluff

Just received the brand new Game of Spades Bluff and first impression… WOW. 😮‍💨

Presentation is 🔥 as always. Game of Spades really does know how to make their fragrances feel premium.

The scent itself is sharp, a little spicy, smooth as hell, and as it dries down I’m really picking up that vetiver. It has this crisp edge to it without ever becoming harsh or overpowering.

Bright. Smooth. Clean. A little sharp. Beautiful drydown.

I’ve never smelled Ex Nihilo Speed Legends, which Bluff is said to be inspired by, so I can’t speak on how close it is — but judging this completely on its own?

Absolute banger. ♠️

Game of Spades don’t miss!

What exactly is Iso E Super? 🧪

Iso E Super is one of those fragrance materials you may have smelled countless times without ever knowing its name.

On its own, it has a soft, transparent, woody-amber character. But its real value in perfumery is how it interacts with the rest of a composition.

It can add diffusion, volume and smooth woody texture, helping a fragrance feel more dimensional without overpowering the notes around it.

One of the most fascinating things about Iso E Super? Your perception of it can seemingly fade in and out. You may stop noticing it while someone around you can still smell your fragrance.

Perfumery isn’t always about adding another recognizable “note.” Sometimes it’s about changing the texture, space and presence of the entire scent.

At Hall Fragrance Co., materials like Iso E Super are part of how we experiment, formulate and refine our fragrances.

First Hedione. Now Iso E Super.

You’ve probably smelled Hedione hundreds of times without knowing it.

Hedione is an aroma chemical with a light, airy, jasmine-like character — but what makes it so useful in perfumery isn’t just its smell.

It can help give a fragrance radiance, diffusion and space, allowing the composition to feel more open and alive instead of dense or flat.

One of the biggest things we’ve learned while developing fragrances:

More fragrance oil doesn’t always mean more projection.

Sometimes a formula doesn’t need more weight.
It needs more air.

That’s where materials like Hedione can completely change how a fragrance behaves without completely changing its identity.

This is part of the process behind the scenes at Hall Fragrance Co. — testing, adjusting, smelling, wearing and learning what each material actually brings to the finished fragrance.
