Mystery project revealed! This is our Gem Clutch. The bodies of the purses are made of Walnut, Tiger Maple, and Beetle-Killed Pine. The gems are made of Bubinga, Tiger Maple, Walnut, Padauk, and Purple Heart. The interiors are wet-molded and hand sewn leather.

Bathroom vanity project, continued. Each cabinet carcass contains two sections, left and right, and each section’s doors/drawer fronts are made from one slab of wood divided horizontally, so the grain runs continuously from top to bottom. I aimed for a 1/8” gap between each door/drawer front, so that’s the size of the spacers. No finish, yet, just raw tiger (“curly”) maple.

The cabinet carcasses are in. Boy, those under mount drawer slides are heavy! Of course, that only matters during installation.

The bathroom vanity project moves forward. This cabinet design includes a separate kick plate, which, once leveled via wedges, small blocks are screwed to it that touch the floor, making the leveling permanent. The kick plate is then screwed to the wall and the base is now ready for the cabinets.

Bathroom Vanity project. Carcasses made, it’s time to make the face frames. 1.25” Tiger Maple.

Building the cabinet carcasses for the bathroom vanity project. Using the separate kick-plate construction method from , and pre-finished maple plywood. Glued and pocket screwed, these will be extremely strong cabinets.

We’ve been working on some new vanity cabinets for my in-laws. Since the tub will be eliminated the new cabinets will be almost wall-to-wall. The doors and drawer fronts will have a European look (overlay, tight joints) in Tiger Maple.
