This Saturday, August 15, I'm going to start livestream selling on Whatnot!
Whatnot? What's that??
I hadn't heard of it, either, until just a few days ago. Whatnot is a HUGE platform where sellers can list items for sale that buyers can browse and buy at any time. But sellers can also do livestreamed shows (and this is the the real focus of Whatnot; there are hundreds of shows going on at any time) to let buyers get a better look at their products. Items displayed in the shows can either be for a set price ("buy now") or they can go on auction (which is what most shows feature). Additionally, you can pre-bid on auction items that will be in an upcoming show (handy if you can't login at the time of the actual auction).

Don't worry; the $25 is coming from Whatnot, not me (plus, if you sign up through my link, I'll get $5 the first time you buy something, whether it's from me or from someone else). I'm totally not ready to "go live," but I'm doing it anyway because I like a good challenge. Whatnot will pay me a bonus, matching my first $150 in sales, but only sales that I make in the FIRST SEVEN DAYS after I got accepted as a seller (which was a couple of days ago), plus I have to do at least two hours of livestream this week PLUS have purchases from at least five different buyers.
The bonus isn't a huge deal, but Whatnot knows it'll be effective at making sellers like me, who would otherwise take weeks or months (years?) to get everything set up, take the Nestea plunge.
So come on, y'all! If there's something I've posted that you've been thinking, "Maybe I'll buy that someday," this week is the time to do it!

Bonus fun fact: I'm going to be livestreaming WHILE I'm at the park in the Dragon Wagon! I have to arrive at the park early to make sure I get my spot, even though customers don't typically start arriving until midday-ish. I typically use that slow period to finish prepping new prints (torching, assembling, etc.). So I thought to myself, hmm, I could do that prep work on camera and maybe pick up a few extra sales!
But I often get a shopper or two (or more) during that time period (sometimes while I'm still setting up), so that'll be interesting! My plan is to leave the camera pointed at whatever I was working on (away from the door) and mute the mic.
Big learning curve and trial-and-error process ahead for me!

Whenever you click on the live show of any seller, there might be just a few people watching, if any (common), or there might be dozens (or even hundreds) of people watching a well-produced closeup of something being auctioned at that moment, or it could be a long view of the seller in the background fumbling around with something they're about to show, or it could be the seller's cat walking across a table with a toddler screaming in the background as the hapless host frantically grabs their phone to shut down the stream they THOUGHT they'd already ended.
And you might get all three situations in the same show.
I don't have a cat or a toddler (just a polite dog), but I do expect to inadvertently stream a fair amount of chaos, because I'm easily distracted, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, and I'm simply never going to be a "well-produced" kind of person.

My plan is to go live from the park on both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9am for the foreseeable future. I might add additional shows at other times/days as I learn the ropes (or I might hate the whole thing and regret it with every ounce of my being, so tune in to the circus while you still can).
