Attempting to set letoff on his older piano and find the buttons all the way to the stops. Took out the rail and grooved in a 2mm slot to raise the rail. Now can get proper letoff (how close the hammer gets to the string).

Rebushing the keys on the Schiller, timeout for a PTG chapter meeting at the shop with Forrest cat identifying his seat, shaping the upright hammers using Chris Brown (TPR Tools) sanding disk.

Had some extra time after a regulation to re-black the sharp keys, quite a difference.

Restringing a German made Hupfeld Helios Orchestrion at Reblitz Restorations. The piano part is in the back of the Hupfeld (to the left in this picture).

Very unusual stringing, for the tri-cord, one wire looping along the outside (making two strings) and one wire in the middle sharing the same hitch as the outside wires.

Those hitch pins are huge! Took a while to learn how to make such large loops.

Owner said sometimes a key sticks in the middle. Can you spot the problem?

Last shot from Sheridan Lake. This one is really out there, with directions like 6 miles past the "old" railroad tracks, first brick house on the right. I'm just a couple of miles from Kansas at this pioint. Honestly I think she has me tune just to have company for awhile, so we chat for a bit after I'm done. Love the deer overlooking it all, eh?

Still out in rural Colorado, this couple with small children got a “free” piano from the church. The name on the piano was ‘Hospe’ and at one time was a player but that was removed at some point. Hospe threw me and doing a little research I find that Hospe was actually a retailer in Omaha and that Schultz & Co actually made the piano and put the Hospe name on it. The piano was made in 1915 and from the looks of it when I took it apart, had 101 years of dirt in it. Tuned up just fine even with the original strings. Family could not believe the difference and the kids were excited to play the piano.

The owner of farm outside of Sheridan Lake has a 9' Decker Brothers Concert Grand and plays that piano all the time (and very well I might add!). There was a sticky note on the piano when I arrived from the accountant who works next door, “PLEASE fix the squeaky damper pedal!” The owner never heard the squeak but those around him sure did. Had to take the lyre off to get underneath to fix the source of the squeak. He insists that I aural tune his piano and said it gets better each time I tune.

Spent two days in rural Southeast Colorado centered around the town of Sheridan Lake, population 66. I really enjoy being able to bring piano services to the area. I remember my days living in Alice Springs, Outback Australia when I was playing, not tuning, and what a struggle to get a piano tuner there. This is farmland and dirt roads as far as the eye can see. What’s growing at the moment is sunflower. Where do you think sunflower cooking oil and cosmetics come from, eh?

Continuing on with the Vose & Sons grand from 1928, probably been that long since cleaned. Since I was doing whippen and hammer shank repair, took the opportunity to do a deep cleaning. Also, several pins were loose and did a sandpaper shim which worked super! Owner said that the rest of the afternoon will be a total loss getting work done as she was excited to start playing.
