Today is a very sad day. Toybox has closed, not by choice. Our “lovely” landlord put a lock on our door this Wednesday and wouldn’t let my employee in. Back in July, we were made aware that the miscellaneous charges, separate from my rent, had gone up. We reached out to him by phone and email several times but never heard back. These charges have nothing to do with our rent. They were separate. Our rent has been paid every month for the last 13 years that I’ve been there, even during Covid when my store was closed; we never missed a month. In previous years, when Mrs. Morello would walk into my store, she would hand me a letter or send me something in the mail to let me know that these charges had increased for the year Ever since her son took over It has been a problem, so bad that I told him to stop contacting me and only deal with my husband. That’s how rude of an individual he is. Our lease was up in December, so obviously this man had a plan. He was trying to push us out, and he did. How sad for Colts Neck and how sad for all of the other surrounding neighborhoods that used to come in, buy a gift on the way to a birthday party, have it wrapped, and leave. As I sit here today and write this, I am so sad. It’s an end of an era for me and my family. Back in Dec 2013 my husband came to me and said, 'Kim, our local toy store is closing.' We acted right away and became the new owners of Toybox! We bought it for the community. The memories I have will be cherished forever. So if you pass by today , pop in and say hi; my husband and employees are there clearing it out while the creep watches. He has a tenant moving in already. Thank you to everyone, for supporting us for the last 13 years. Our customers were the best!!! You will be missed!!
