😂 Things that make me WAY happier than they probably should...

A perfectly organized rack.
Icy fresh fountain Dr Pepper.
Employees becoming family.
A garden that actually produced something.
A consignor who texts me: "My check helped me so much this season!"
A shopper who finds exactly what she's looking for.
An empty box.
A full store.
A REALLY good idea.
A deep conversation.
A good before-and-after.
Someone who says: "I've never consigned before, but I'm going to try it."
Seeing someone save a LOT more money than they expected.

And my all time favorite... watching the sense of community in the local and small businesses around us. 🩷

👀 You see the sale... but you don't see this!

When you walk into Rhea Lana's and see rows and rows of neatly organized clothes, you don't see

📦 the mountains of inventory that come through the door
🏷️the tagging
🛒the moving
🗒️the months of organizing
👀the checking
👚the sorting
🧹the cleaning
😂the problem-solving
📲the late night social media posting
☕️the caffeine required to make all of the above happen

And you definitely don't see the movement when something goes completely sideways and everyone looks to me to figure out what to do next... 😱

But you know what... I love that part! I love turning chaos into something organized. I love watching an empty space turn into a giant children's boutique. AND I REALLY love that moment when the doors open and people start shopping.

It's a little hectic, it's a LOT of work, AND it's all completely worth it.

🇺🇸 We Will Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001; the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who ran toward danger when others were running away.

We remember the courage of first responders, the strength of ordinary Americans, and the incredible unity our country showed in the days that followed.

May we always remember those we lost.
May we always honor those who served.
May we never take our freedom, our families, or our communities for granted.

So... how exactly did THIS happen? 🤨

I don't think little-kid-me ever sat around thinking "Someday I want to own a children's consignment business and spend my days talking about which safety pins work best for bundling." And yet... here we are.

Before Rhea Lana's, my life looked really different. I am a Joplin transplant. I did accounting and bookkeeping for 2 large semi truck dealerships there and never imagined doing anything different.

Joplin was the first Rhea Lana's I ever went to. I walked in and was automatically AMAZED. I couldn't believe the prices I was seeing. I thought the idea of a giant store of barely used children's items was an amazing idea. Sure, I had been to other consignment stores and sales... but this was a whole other level. The organization and all around vibes were something I couldn't quit thinking about. Fast forward a couple years and our family relocated and I couldn't believe Central and Northern MO didn't have a Rhea Lana's. I wanted to bring that same sense of wonder and community that I felt at that first sale I attended to the Columbia area.

I started researching Rhea Lana's and their values were something I could stand behind. There was something about the business that just clicked for me. It wasn't just about selling used children's gear. It was about helping families. One mom can clean out her closets and make money. Another mom can find clothes her kids need without spending a fortune. Someone else's perfectly good baby gear gets a second life. And suddenly, all those things sitting in someone's basement become valuable to somebody else. That's what really hooked me.

Then something I realized something unexpected. I really love the people. I love watching strangers become regulars. I love seeing consignors get excited about their checks and tell me how this extra money helped them. I love watching shoppers find an amazing deal. And I love the community that happens around the sale.

So, that's the short version of how I ended up here. But I want to hear from YOU!

OK.. but who is Megan? 😂

Since I'm asking you all to get to know me, I figured I should probably give you some actual information besides "I own Rhea Lana's of Columbia". 🙃 So here are a few completely random facts about your local Rhea Lana's owner:

☕️ I run on coffee and Dr Pepper.

🌱 I check my garden about 400 times a day. Not because anything is going to grow significantly faster while I stare at it. BUT what if there's a new tomato? (and who knows how many times I check my indoor plants... )

🗒️ I love making lists... however I'm very Type C so that list may get lost in one of my 47 notebooks I have going on at one time.

💡 I get excited about ideas REALLY easily. Someone can casually say, "You know what would be fun?" and five minutes later I've created an entire event in my head.

🏡 I LOVE homemaking. Cooking, gardening, making things cozy, canning, feeding people... all of it.

🙃 I'm very shy until I get to know you, then I'm extremely sarcastic. My sense of humor is dry and, I'll admit, sometimes hard to understand. 😂

🎭 I love singing, dancing, and the theater. Any Fine Art can grab my attention and hold it for a long time. I'm always trying to introduce my family to old musicals.

📚 I am a book nerd. I can curl up with my Kindle and read all day without noticing.

And finally... 🩷 I LOVE community. I love small businesses. (I always try to shop them first before anything national.) I love people who show up for each other. And I love creating things that give people a reason to come together.

👋🏼 LET'S GET TO KNOW THE OWNER!

I've been thinking about something lately...
When I shop local, I like knowing who I'm supporting. I want to know the person behind the business. I want to know why they started it. I want to know what they're passionate about and what they stand for. And, honestly, I love knowing the random little things that make them them.

So, I thought... maybe you all are the same as me. Maybe you'd like to know the person behind Rhea Lana's of Columbia a little better, too.

HI! 👋🏼 I'm Megan. I'm the owner of Rhea Lana's of Columbia, but that's really only one little piece of who I am.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to be doing a little "Get to Know the Owner" series right here. I'll share some random things about myself, some behind-the-scenes Rhea Lana's stories, how I ended up owning this crazy business, things I've been learning along the way, and probably a few things that make you wonder, "Why did she tell us THAT?" 😂 And I want YOU to be a part of it.
