Mid century modern trellis with two tone rust finish
A couple of friends reached out about adding some outdoor flair to their home that would match the design. After researching a few styles and artists, I drew inspiration from Piet Mondrian's squares. I then learned he was a founder of the Dej Stijl movement which inspired the White Stripes. This really drives home the fact that no matter what you do, Jack White already did it 20 years ago đŸ˜‚
Once I had the piece designed and welded, I wanted to add some contrast. I personally love the texture and colors of home made rust patinas. After some experimenting, I found that grinding the frame to bare metal gives a lighter tone while not pretreating the panels gives a darker tone. Once the patina had set, I used durable clear finish to set the color and prevent further rusting.
