Columbus has so many cool places to spend your money, but I’m especially obsessed with the ones doing something bigger with it. 🥹

The shops in this post aren’t just selling you something. They’re creating jobs, funding therapy, helping survivors rebuild, making healthcare more accessible, supporting families, and proving that a small business can have a huge impact.

I think we talk a lot about “shopping small,” but where we choose to spend our money is one tiny way we get to vote for the kind of community we want to live in. And I want more of this in Columbus. 🫶🏻

This list is absolutely not exhaustive and I’m actually hoping you guys help me make it longer.

From winning Miss New York AND Miss America, to being the original Nancy Drew… Aunt Lisa was, and very much still is, the OG ✨icon✨ of the family 💅🏻

She built a 25-year career modeling in NYC and taught me basically everything I know about thrifting, fashion, and even how to use my sewing machine. I still remember being a little girl, going thrifting with her, putting together (very dramatic) fashion shows, and having her teach me how to do a proper runway walk 💃🏼

And somehow she’s still part of everything I do now. She actually uses her interior design degree to build the floor maps behind the scenes for Girl Next Door Flea 🙌🏻

These days she’s living in Florida, restoring her beautiful 1910 home, and continuing to prove that she is an absolute CHAMPION thrifter.

Basically… the blueprint. The fashion icon. The coolest aunt ever. Lisa Heywood

She took care of people. She gave back. She stayed connected to where she came from. She made being kind, generous, feminine, smart and powerful all feel like they could exist together. 🦋

And I think that’s the part worth carrying with us.

We don’t all have to do something huge to leave a mark. We can just try to make the people around us feel a little more loved, supported, and seen.

I hope we all leave this earth a little more like Dolly did, brighter, kinder, and with a little extra sparkle left behind. ✨

Rest in peace, Dolly Parton.

just some gentle reminders from your local vintage propaganda department 💌

the world does not need another $7 polyester top. it needs us to get really fu***ng good at wearing what already exists.

wear the old dress. dig through the bins. buy the weird little trinket. learn to sew a button. outfit repeat!!! ask why a brand new shirt costs less than your iced latte. stop treating clothes like they’re disposable. romanticize finding the thing that already had a whole life before you.

there are already more than enough beautiful things in this world. we just have to find them.
