Sans Souci is a local not-for-profit organization whose mission is to be the community partner that improves the ability of our neighbors to support themselves "without worry." Since 1979, Sans Souci (French, meaning “without worry”) has operated a thrift store in Columbus, Indiana that serves the Bartholomew County community in a variety of capacities. To run the thrift store, Sans Souci fully re

lies on tangible donations from community members. Sans Souci graciously accepts donations of everything from clothing to furniture to household items such as home décor and books. Donated items get priced and placed in the thrift store and funds that are raised from the thrift store support the three core programs: no-cost, low-cost and employee development. No-Cost: Sans Souci allows any Bartholomew County community member in need to shop free of charge for essential items such as clothing, shoes and winter coats. Low-Cost: By intentionally pricing items in the thrift store at a low cost, we provide opportunities and support self-sufficiency for community members to purchase items they need at a cost they can afford. Employee Development: Sans Souci hires individuals who have struggled to obtain or retain reliable employment elsewhere. Through training and one-on-one attention, Sans Souci works to remove the barriers in our employee's lives with the goal of having each employee reach self-sufficiency. It is only because of our amazing donors, shoppers and volunteers that we can combat poverty in our community and work towards our goal of having everyone in our community live life "without worry."

Sans Souci will be closed on Friday, September 11th for our annual all-staff “Treats & Training” Day!

We’ll miss seeing our amazing customers and donors, but this is an important day for our team to come together, learn, and grow.

We’ll spend the day doing some team building, rolling out new ways to improve our internal and external efficiency, and, of course, enjoying some treats along the way!

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we invest this time in our team and in making Sans Souci even better for the community we serve.

We’ll reopen for normal business hours on Saturday, September 12th. We’ll see you then!

Introducing the Sans Souci Build You Class of 2027! 💚

We are incredibly proud of these six employees as they begin SSBU, our eight-month career-readiness program. With the support of community volunteers, they will explore communication, emotional intelligence, career development, and other skills that will help them succeed in the workplace. Near the end of the program, each participant will also gain hands-on experience with a local business in an industry that interests them.

Because of our amazing supporters, employees remain paid and “on the clock” when attending these workshops or completing the externships.

We had a wonderful orientation last week filled with team building (they saved the serum that saved the world!) and words of encouragement. Please join us in congratulating the SSBU Class of 2027 and cheering them on throughout this journey!

We are thrilled to share our final update! Together, we raised $4,881 for our Foundations Program! 💚

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made a gift, shared Lilly’s story, and entrusted us with these funds. Your generosity allows employees to remain paid and “on the clock” while attending high school equivalency classes and trainings, accessing essential resources, and overcoming barriers to a brighter future.

As Lilly’s story showed us, having people who believe in you and stand beside you can change the course of a life- and the lives of those you love.

Tuesday, August 25th is and we are celebrating with $0.50 clothing!

This day is about more than just getting a great deal on clothing! It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of shopping secondhand. When you donate clothing or shop for clothing secondhand, you’re extending the life of each item while helping reduce the waste and resources associated with producing brand-new textiles. ♻️
