Well, Skate Zone family… this is a hard one to write !
After 46 years serving the Columbus area in roller skating, Skate Zone Columbus will be closing its doors on Sept 7th for the last time as a skating rink.
This is a long post, but we encourage you to read the whole thing!
You may not know me personally, but my name is Harley. I’m Mr. Dale’s youngest daughter, one of the people who have had the honor and privilege of carrying this legacy he started so many years ago. I’m primarily at the Starkville location, but we have always operated as a family business. I’ve shared my dad with you for many years!
Our goal as a business has always been to serve the families of the golden triangle by having a space for families to celebrate each other, be entertained, and spend time fostering a love for roller skating. Starting in September, we will be closing this chapter, but we are not leaving the golden triangle with an empty building. We are THRILLED to be providing something new and special to our area- something that keeps our business mission the same- providing a space for families to spend time together but now with a new love.
Our building will be transformed into a D-BAT Baseball and Softball Academy. In our new building you’ll find state of the art batting cages, lessons with professional instructors, and camps offered annually regardless of age or skill level! We’ll post more about this exciting new chapter later on, but for now our focus is on saying goodbye to this chapter.
Please know this was not an easy decision to make, as our family has poured countless hours into this facility, but we are at peace with it. My first birthday party was here, my sister’s funeral and memorial skate was here (for those of you that remember Ms Crystal), and we’ve had countless family parties and events here! We want to spend these next few weeks reminiscing on those memories… of soul nights, birthday parties, church gatherings, team celebrations, school parties, and so so much more. And although those memories fill our hearts forever, we pray that Columbus can help us make new memories in our next chapter! And for those of you that still get the itch to skate, come visit us in Starkville! Roller skating will be a part of us forever.
As a way to solidify our memories, we ask that you come skate with us over these next few weeks and join us on our FAREWELL WEEKEND!
Labor Day weekend will be our last roller skating weekend, and we’ll be posting soon some specials we’ll be running and we hope to see you all rolling in one last time.
The roller skating legacy will never truly end. When you see us out and about, I hope you still stop in and say hey to the “skate zone guys” and share how much our family business meant to you and your family for 46 years !!! We are so grateful God let us do this for so long, and we are hopeful of a fresh beginning. And we hope your love for roller skating lives on! 🤍 🛼
Love, the Mississippi roller skating King’s daughter,
Harley
We’d love to see some photos of memories in the comments, and I’ll start with my first birthday picture, my beautiful sister and I dj-ing, my mom and dad skating, and my boys learning to roller skate 🤍
