🌾 Meet Josephine — Professional Compost Contributor, Timothy Hay Inspector & Certified Sweet Girl 🌾

This week’s Farm Employee Spotlight belongs to one of the softest little ladies on the homestead… Josephine! 🤎🐰

Josephine is our beautiful silverback rabbit, and when she first came to Field & Flour, this little girl was terrified of just about everything.

A hand moved too quickly? Her whole body would jolt.
Someone reached toward her? Absolutely NOT. 😂
Being held or petted? She wanted no part of that.

So we didn’t rush her.

We fed her. We sat with her. We talked to her. We let her learn that hands could bring treats, Timothy hay, gentle scratches and love. 🌿🤎

And somewhere along the way, fear started turning into trust.

Today, Josephine lets us hold her. She lets us pet that ridiculously soft fur. She doesn’t jump at every little movement anymore, and while she’s still our shy girl, she is nowhere near the frightened little rabbit who first arrived here.

And perhaps the sweetest part?

Josephine is one of Corey’s favorite rabbits. 🥹🤎 When he comes down to help with rabbit chores, her pen is the first one he heads toward. She’ll take food right from your hand now, and if you offer this girl a piece of Timothy hay… well, you’ve officially won her over. 😂🌾

🐰 Her official farm duties include:
✨ Timothy hay quality control
✨ Being unbearably cute
✨ Accepting snacks as payment
✨ Supervising rabbit chores
✨ Producing what we lovingly call GARDEN GOLD 💩😂

Because around here, rabbit p**p isn’t waste — it’s treasure! Rabbit manure is a wonderful addition to our gardens, helping us feed the soil that feeds the plants that eventually help feed us. 🌱

Everybody has a job at Field & Flour… even if your job description includes eating hay and p**ping. 😂

But Josephine has taught us something else, too:

🤎 Trust isn’t demanded. It’s earned in tiny moments.

🐇 Sometimes the quietest animals teach us the biggest lessons about patience.

🌿 A gentle hand, given enough time, can become a safe place.

Our sweet Josephine is proof that sometimes the biggest transformations on a homestead happen quietly — one treat, one touch and one little piece of Timothy hay at a time.

Good morning from Field & Flour Homestead 🌾

6:22 AM • 67° • crisp air • and the homestead is already wide awake.

The ladies are out, the roosters are roaming, the bunnies have been checked, and I’m heading into the tack room — which is a work in progress and part of a little secret we’ve slowly been working on around here. 👀

And listen… we are a Hot Mess Homestead sometimes. 😂 There’s always something that needs fixed, cleaned, moved, built, fed, watered or chased. It isn’t always Instagram pretty — but it’s ours.

The dogs actually started our day at 4:15 AM because one particular lady, who is now crated at night and doing SO much better behaviorally, has decided the entire household needs to know when she would like her morning water. Apparently 4 AM is the official start of business. 😂

I even squeezed in a few minutes of grounding and yoga this morning — bare feet, cool air, quiet farm. Sometimes you just need to plant your feet on the ground before the day starts running away with you.

Now everybody is fed, watered, happy and ready for the day… and this farm girl is off to work a 13-hour shift.

Not picture perfect. Not always organized. But growing, building and loving this little life one early morning at a time. 🤎🌾

🌾 A Day in the Life at Field & Flour Homestead

Today is my day off from my job, and this is just a little snippet of what happens on my days off here at the homestead — where the work starts early and somehow there’s always one more thing to do.

We woke up the chickens and rabbits, mixed up chicken feed for proper nutrition, prepared rabbit feed, and let the girls free-range their little hearts out. The dogs spent most of the day outside soaking up the sunshine, while Rosemary had a trip to the vet for a little extra TLC.

Then it was off to Rural King for supplies — because apparently a homestead trip to Rural King is never just one thing. 😂 We also spent part of the day at my bestie’s farm processing chickens, learning, working hard, and putting another homestead skill to use.

Some days are fun, some are messy, and some are plain hard work. Most days are all three.

“Farm life isn’t about having less work. It’s about loving what you’re working for.”

And tomorrow? We’ll wake up and do it all over again. 🌻

🥚 Farm Fresh Eggs Available! 🥚

We had planned to stay closed until September 18th while we work on renovations, but apparently the girls didn’t get the memo! 😂 Over the last few days, we’ve ended up with quite the surplus—even after selling several dozen.

So, I’ve stocked 7 dozen farm-fresh eggs in the little red cooler right in front of the farm stand.

🥚 $3 per dozen
💵 Cash only for now — our Venmo and Cash App payment options are temporarily unavailable while we make some changes with the renovations.

There’s just something special about farm-fresh eggs, especially when you know they came from happy, well-loved hens. ❤️

Early mornings at Field & Flour Homestead 🤎
53° and crisp this morning, and farm chores are officially done! Dogs walked, zoomies handled, bellies full, and everyone is slowly transitioning to Rosemary’s salmon-based food so we can keep things safer for her while giving the whole crew a healthier option.🐇 Rabbits fed, watered, and treated to apple slices.🐓 Both coops stocked with 5 gallons of feed + 5 gallons of fresh water, followed by about 35 minutes of free-ranging. The chickens also got warm homemade oatmeal topped with frozen blueberries—and of course, the human family got some fresh eggs too!We’ve officially confirmed THREE roosters in the red coop, so rooster separation plans are coming sooner rather than later. And at 53° this morning, apparently I need to start thinking about winterizing too. 😅Oh—and today’s surprise? A hidden kitten that definitely does NOT belong to us. Because apparently this homestead needed another plot twist.There’s something special about starting every morning with the animals—the chickens running to greet you, everyone finding their rhythm, and getting a little farm life in before heading off to work. ❤️
