A little look at what happens when it’s time for one of our daylilies to come out of the ground. 🌱

Rick demonstrates how we carefully dig around the plant, giving the roots plenty of space before lifting the entire daylily from the bed. The goal is to bring up a strong, healthy root system while causing as little damage as possible.

From there, the soil comes off, the roots are inspected, and the lily begins its journey from our farm to its new home.

It’s a simple process, but after growing and caring for these plants for so long, we’ve learned that a little patience while digging goes a long way.

Healthy blooms start with healthy roots—and we want those roots arriving ready for their next chapter.

Butterflies add a little extra magic to the garden during bloom season.

They flutter between the daylilies, stop to investigate whatever looks interesting, and somehow always manage to make an already colorful garden feel even more alive.

But if we’re being completely truthful, we might just appreciate the company.

When you’ve been outside for hours digging, weeding, watering, and tending to thousands of daylilies, it’s nice when somebody stops by to visit—even if they contribute absolutely nothing to the workload. 😂🦋

Beautiful? Yes.

Helpful? Not particularly.

Good company while we toil away? Absolutely.

There’s something about a glowing yellow throat that makes a daylily feel like it’s lit from within.

At the center of the bloom, that burst of yellow draws your eye inward before leading it out across the petals. On darker reds, purples, and plums, it creates incredible contrast. On pinks, peaches, and softer shades, it adds warmth and brightness that seems to radiate through the entire flower.

A healthy daylily bed takes a little maintenance behind the scenes. 🌱

Two to three times a year, we cut back the weeds and unwanted growth around our daylilies. It might not be the most glamorous job on the farm, but it’s an important one.

Keeping the beds clear improves airflow around the plants, reduces competition for water and nutrients, and helps create conditions that are less favorable for disease. It also gives us a chance to get into the beds, inspect the plants, and catch potential problems early.

It’s a lot of cutting, clearing, and hauling—but when bloom season arrives and the beds are bursting with healthy daylilies, the work feels pretty worthwhile.

Beautiful blooms start with the jobs nobody sees.

The goats would like everyone to know they play a very important role here at Souls ’n Bloom.

Their official title? Excess Daylily Disposal Specialists.

When we have extra daylilies that aren’t going anywhere, the goats are more than happy to step in and handle the situation. No complaints. No lunch breaks. No complicated disposal process. Just an extremely enthusiastic farm cleanup crew with four legs and absolutely no concept of portion control. 😂🐐

Some farms compost their excess plants.

We have goats.

And judging by their job satisfaction, we think the system is working just fine.

Bright color knows how to make an entrance—but add ruffles, and a daylily really comes to life.

On our more vibrant hybridized daylilies, ruffled edges give those bold yellows, fiery oranges, brilliant reds, rich pinks, and dramatic color combinations even more personality. The folds and curves catch the sunlight differently across the petals, creating little shifts in highlight and shadow that make the colors feel even more dimensional.

And when the ruffling carries a contrasting edge? That's when things get especially interesting. Suddenly every twist and ripple becomes part of the color story, framing the bloom and drawing your eye around its entire shape.

It's one of our favorite combinations: bright, joyful color paired with just enough ruffle to make every bloom feel like it's in motion.
