Gold Certificates from 1865 thru 1928

With their bright gold seals and backs, large size Gold Certificates continue to be popular and highly collectible. The Term "Good as Gold" actually came from early United States currency that was backed by the United States Gold bullion reserves. (We went off the Gold standard in 1933)

This $10 Gold note issued in 1922 has a portrait of our first Treasurer of the United States, Micheal Hillegas (1729-1804) (large note size 7 1/2 x 3 1/4 )

1918/7-D (Denver Mint) Over date Buffalo Nickel

How did this happen? In sinking a working die, two or more impressions must be taken for the working hub. In the haste to produce new dies, a working hub which had already been impressed with a hub dated 1917 was then either inadvertently or intentionally given another impression from a hub dated 1918. The result was a over date error.
