Calling All Past Wensleydale Students!

Have you taken a Wensleydale paper piecing class with Patt before? Whether you joined us here at the shop or took her class through your quilt guild, we’d love to have you back!

We have a few openings in tomorrow’s Wensleydale class (Wednesday, October 14th) from 10 AM–3 PM, and we’re inviting all previous students to join us again FREE of charge!

It’s a great opportunity to refresh your skills, ask questions, and make some more progress on your Wensleydale quilt by Jen Kingwell.

We hope to see some familiar faces tomorrow!

And that’s a wrap on the 2026 River Run Shop Hop!

Three days of fabric, friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun! As you can see, we’re officially all shopped out!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, shopped with us, and helped make this year’s Shop Hop such a success. We loved seeing familiar faces, meeting new friends, and sharing our love of quilting with all of you.

And an extra special thank you to everyone who helped behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need a little rest. Until next year!

Our October newsletter and calendar are here with everything happening in the shop this month. We’re especially looking forward to the River Run Shop Hop, October 8–10, along with Sit & Sew days, our Wensleydale class, and the Linda Ballard Fall Retreat.

We also want to say a heartfelt thank you to our customers and quilting community for your patience, kindness, and understanding as Patt and her family navigate the loss of her husband, Kim. We know there have been several changes to our regular shop hours, and we truly appreciate everyone being so gracious and flexible during this time.

Please take a look at the calendar before making a trip to the shop, as we do have a few closed days this month.

We’re looking forward to a cozy October filled with quilting, friends, and plenty of time together in the shop. 🤎🍁

We’ll be closed Monday and Tuesday, then back to our regular hours on Wednesday before kicking off the River Run Shop Hop with extended hours Thursday through Saturday!

Monday, October 5 — CLOSED
Tuesday, October 6 — CLOSED
Wednesday, October 7 — 9 AM–3 PM

River Run Shop Hop Hours:
Thursday, October 8 — 9 AM–6 PM
Friday, October 9 — 9 AM–6 PM
Saturday, October 10 — 9 AM–4 PM

We want to share a few upcoming changes to our shop hours with our quilting community.

Our owner, Patt Thompson, recently lost her husband, Kim. As Patt and her family take time to be together, grieve, and celebrate Kim’s life, the shop will be closed on the following dates:

• September 28 & 29
• October 1
• October 3 — We will not be open for our usual First Saturday
• October 12 — Closed for Kim’s Celebration of Life

A few important dates that are still on as scheduled:

-Our Wensleydale Class on September 30 will still be held as planned.

-We will be OPEN Friday, October 2, for our regularly scheduled Open Sew Day.

-We will also be OPEN October 8, 9 & 10 for the River Run Shop Hop!

We are so grateful for the kindness, patience, and understanding our customers and quilting community have shown Patt and our shop during this difficult time. Your love and support mean more than you know.

Thank you for keeping Patt and her family in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️

Only a couple days left to decorate your River Run bucket! 🇺🇸🧵

The North State River Run Shop Hop is almost here, and we can’t wait to see everyone’s creativity!

Pick up your official River Run bucket right here at Friends Around the Block for $15.99, then decorate it however you’d like, just make sure the official River Run 2026 sticker is visible in your design.

Once it’s finished, post a photo on your personal page and share it to the North State River Run page to enter the decorating contest. All entries will be gathered and put up for a vote, and the top 3 vote-getters will each win a gift basket put together by Quilt Corral and Hokema’s!

Entries are due September 25, so you only have a couple of days left to get creative!

And don’t forget, the North State River Run Shop Hop is October 8–10! We’ll have buckets available in the shop while supplies last. ❤️🤍💙
