A set of bags for a Juneteenth celebration happening on Long Island this Friday, June 19th 🇺🇸

Otherwise known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, Juneteenth commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States.

While President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation went into effect on January 1, 1863, it wasn’t instantly enforced in places without a strong Union military presence, so slavery went on unchecked for another two years. In June 17th, 2021, it was officially signed into federal law as a US holiday.

Sorry, but not really, for all the New York celebratory posts since last night but we’re riding high on this energy because the Knicks win represents so much more than just basketball 🏀. As a Gen X mom, born and raised in NY, having attended public schools and college in NYC, worked and raised kids on Long Island too with kids now enjoying the city, this was a long time coming and so much fun to be a part of.

THIS WIN represents what happens when talent and hard work come together with a lot of heart and soul. From that amazing comeback in game 4, sometimes scrappy street ball is what you need to win and the Knicks showed they played to win 🏆

We made history as New Yorkers do best, outside and together. The watch parties in the streets of New York, across Long Island and the tri state area, was where the energy of the city was and we are looking forward to a great parade !

Diversity is our strength and all our neighborhoods make up the fabric of our city. We are proud to contribute in our small way by helping showcase all great schools, organizations and companies especially around New York because when one wins, we all do 🌎
