DACHSHUND HEAD
With black yarn:

TAN MUZZLE

Stuff the muzzle lightly and sew it centered beneath the eyes.
Embroider a rounded triangular black nose in the upper center.
Make one short vertical black stitch beneath the nose, then embroider two curved mouth lines.
TAN EYEBROWS
Make 2.
With tan yarn:
Ch 4.
Starting in second chain from hook:
sl st, sc, sl st.
FO.
Sew one eyebrow approximately 1–2 stitches above each eye.
For an even simpler version, embroider each eyebrow directly onto the head with several tan stitches.
LONG DACHSHUND EARS
Make 2 with black yarn.
R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)

Do not stuff.
Flatten the ear.
Crochet through both layers:
6 sc across the opening.
FO leaving a long sewing tail.
Sew the ears to each side of the head around Rounds 5–7. Position them so they hang downward alongside the cheeks.
CHRISTMAS TREE BODY
The tree body is a cone. Several rounds are worked in BLO so the unused front loops can later hold the ruffles.
Use forest-green yarn.

RUFFLED TREE LAYERS
The unused front loops from Rounds 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and optionally 21 form the attachment lines.
Work from the top tier downward.
Tier 1 — Forest Green
Join forest green to the FLO of Round 6.
Ch 2.
Work 2 dc in every front loop around.
Join with sl st.
Next round: dc in every stitch.
FO.
Cream Scalloped Edge
Join cream yarn.
Work:
(sc, ch 2, sc) in every second stitch
around the edge.
FO.
This creates the warm cream decorative trim.
Tier 2 — Burgundy
Join burgundy to the FLO of Round 9.
Repeat:
2 dc in every front loop.
Next round:
dc in every stitch.
Add cream scalloped edging.
Tier 3 — Forest Green
Attach to the FLO of Round 12.
Repeat the same ruffle instructions.
Add cream edging.
Tier 4 — Burgundy
Attach to the FLO of Round 15.
Repeat the same ruffle instructions.
Add cream edging.
Tier 5 — Forest Green
Attach to the FLO of Round 18.
Repeat the same ruffle instructions.

Optional Extra Bottom Tier
For an even fuller tree like the finished example, attach burgundy or forest green to the FLO of Round 21.
Work:
2 dc in each stitch around.
Next round:
dc around.
Finish with cream scalloped edging.
This extra tier makes the dress especially full.
ATTACH THE DACHSHUND HEAD
Position the narrow top of the tree cone against the bottom center of the Dachshund head.
Using strong black or green yarn, sew securely around the connection.
Go around the neck area twice so the head does not wobble.
LARGE CHRISTMAS BOW
For the look in the example, use approximately 1–1½-inch-wide red-and-green tartan ribbon.
Form a large bow measuring approximately 4 inches across.
Sew it securely beneath the Dachshund's chin.
Attach a small gold bell to the center.
Crochet Bow Alternative
With burgundy yarn:
Ch 31.
Row 1: Starting in second chain, sc across. (30)
Rows 2–7: ch 1, turn, sc across.
FO.
Fold the rectangle into a bow shape.
Wrap a narrow strip of green or cream yarn tightly around the center.
Sew beneath the chin.
MINI PLAID BOWS
Tie several tiny tartan bows approximately 1–1½ inches wide.
Sew them evenly around the green ruffled tiers.
Two to four miniature bows are plenty.
CROCHET HOLLY LEAVES
With dark green yarn:
Ch 7.
Beginning in second chain:
sl st, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc.
Working along opposite side of chain:
sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st.
FO.
Pinch the ends slightly to create a pointed holly-leaf shape.
Make approximately 6–10 leaves.
HOLLY BERRIES
With red yarn:
Make 4 sc into MR.
Sl st into first stitch.
FO.
Pull tight.
Make three berries for each holly cluster.
Sew three berries between two green leaves.
Place several clusters around the burgundy ruffles.
PEARL ORNAMENTS
Sew pearl beads around the ruffles, spacing them approximately 2–3 inches apart.
Alternate the placement between the green and burgundy tiers.
For an all-crochet version, make tiny cream bobbles instead of using beads.
GOLD BELLS
Attach several miniature bells around the skirt.
Place one larger bell at the center of the neck bow.
Smaller bells can hang beneath selected ruffles.
Avoid adding too many; approximately 5–8 small bells gives the tree a balanced appearance.
ASSEMBLY AND SHAPING
Fluff each ruffled tier outward with your fingers.
Position the layers so each tier overlaps the one beneath it slightly.
Arrange the decorations evenly around the entire tree rather than decorating only the front.
The finished piece should have a broad Christmas-tree silhouette with the Dachshund head centered at the top.
Finished Appearance
The completed decoration should measure roughly:
9–11 inches tall
8–10 inches wide at the bottom
For a smaller version, use DK/ #3 yarn and a 3 mm hook. For a larger centerpiece, use bulky #5 yarn with a 5–5.5 mm hook.
Important: Because this decoration uses bells, beads and other small pieces, it is intended as a decorative item rather than a toy for small children.
