📣 ‼️ A little PSA from Lemons & Dough — because apparently this one needs some clarification. 🍋🍩

If you live in a neighborhood OR attend/organize an event and ever hear some version of:

“Lemons & Dough said they don’t want to come here.”

Please know there is usually a LOT more context behind that statement.

When we say a neighborhood, event, festival, food truck night, market, etc. isn’t a good fit for us, we are NOT saying:

❌ We don’t like your neighborhood.
❌ We don’t like the residents.
❌ We don’t like your event or the people running it.
❌ We think we’re “too good” to come there.
❌ We’ll never come there again.

What we ARE saying is:

We run a business. And sometimes, something simply doesn’t make sense for our business.

There’s a HUGE difference between:

“We don’t want to come there.”

and

“Based on our previous experience, numbers, or the setup of this particular event, it doesn’t make good business sense for us to participate.”

And yes — THIS GOES FOR EVENTS TOO!

We may absolutely LOVE an event, the organizers, and everything about it…and still decide not to return.

Why?

Because at the end of the day, it’s a business decision.

We know our numbers. We know what it costs us to stock the trailer, prep, travel, pay employees, operate our equipment, pay vendor fees, spend hours serving, and replace the inventory we use.

We also keep track of where and under what circumstances our business performs well — and where it doesn’t.

Sometimes an event is oversaturated with vendors. Sometimes there are too many businesses selling similar products. Sometimes the attendance doesn’t support the number of vendors. Sometimes the vendor fee is too high for the sales we historically do there. Sometimes the hours, distance, or logistics don’t make sense.

And sometimes an event can be AMAZING and still not be profitable for us.

That doesn’t make it a bad event.

It doesn’t mean another vendor won’t absolutely KILL IT there.

It simply means it wasn’t the right fit for our particular business.

The same applies to neighborhoods.

We have learned over the years that food truck nights with several trucks serving the same crowd are often not the best fit for us. We frequently do much better visiting a neighborhood on our own or alongside one other truck.

So we may decline a neighborhood’s food truck night and happily come back another evening for a smaller pop-up.

Those things are NOT contradictory.

The neighborhood isn’t the problem. The event isn’t necessarily the problem. The people certainly aren’t the problem.

It’s simply a business looking at its own numbers and deciding where its time, inventory, labor, and resources make the most sense.

Every small business has to do that if it wants to stay in business.

So if you ever hear:

“Lemons & Dough doesn’t want to come to our neighborhood/event anymore…”

Just know the full sentence is probably closer to:

“Lemons & Dough looked at their numbers and decided that particular setup wasn’t the best business decision for them.”

🍋🍩

Declining an event is NOT declining a community.

And deciding something isn’t financially worthwhile isn’t personal — it’s business.

We genuinely LOVE the communities we get to serve, and we’re incredibly grateful that people WANT Lemons & Dough at their neighborhoods, schools, festivals and events in the first place. ❤️

We’ll always make our decisions based on what allows this little family business to keep rolling — and keep serving y’all for a long time to come. 🍋🍩❤️
