A NOTE FROM YOUR HOST:
“Hi all! Carolyn here—Fisheries biologist, guide, and big believer in getting more women on the water.

This trip means a lot to me: getting to watch women push past the learning curve, gain real confidence, get their hands dirty, and start landing fish on their own terms.

I’ll be there teaching, guiding, and leading the crew all week... Can’t wait to get back out there with you all!”

Rubbers protect fish too!

Why do we use rubber nets? Because they’re better on the fish and the fisherman. Fish can get tangled Old-school mesh nets which can lead to injury, scarring and more time handling. Mesh also removes more of their protective slime than rubber. They need that slime. It serves a purpose, it is a vital part of their immune system. Finally, rubber nets are much more forgiving when your line gets tangled, meaning you get back to fishing quicker after the release.

As catch and release anglers, it is our responsibility to take whatever steps we can to reduce our impact on the fish we catch. Rubber nets are an important part of that equation.

Food for thought:
Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden aren’t the only fish on the upper Kenai that deserve to be treated with care. When you see a red Sockeye on the end of your line that you know you are going to release, consider grabbing a rubber net next time! By doing so, you will ensure that you release that fish in the best shape possible so it can complete its life cycle. Mesh net scars turn into infections that can reduce spawning ability.

That’s one heck of a first fish.

It didn’t take long before this guy was all smiles with a beautiful Upper Kenai rainbow trout.

Getting kids out on the water and watching them catch their first fish is always a good day in our book.

Thanks for fishing with us—we can’t wait to see you back.

Most folks know me from guiding, but when the river freezes up for the winter, I spend a good chunk of my time propagating willows and other native plants here on the Kenai Peninsula.

Last month, alongside Streamwatch and the Kenai Watershed Forum, we spent the day planting many of them to help restore damaged riverbanks and protect fish habitat for years to come. Here’s a little more about why that work matters.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to help plant, haul, dig, and get a little muddy along the way.

We’ll be sharing updates as these willows grow, along with future volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved in caring for this incredible river. Stay tuned.

This might be our favorite comment we’ve heard all season.

We had an awesome day on the water with our new friend Nick from Maine.

Nick is an angler through and through, but this was his first guided fishing trip. We had a great time introducing him to the Kenai. A few hours into the trip, Nick said he was having the most fun he’s ever had fishing. As guides, that is music to our ears!

Thanks for trusting us with your first guided experience, Nick. We hope we didn’t spoil you too much—let’s fish again sometime!

Rain? Check.
Wind? Check.
Fish? Absolutely. 🎣

These ladies didn’t let a little weather get in the way of an unforgettable evening on the Upper Kenai.

After learning to tie their own flies at the shop, they headed to the river and caught trout on flies they made themselves. It doesn’t get much cooler than that.

Huge shoutout to this awesome group for embracing the adventure and proving that a little rain just makes the stories even better.

Interested in joining a future Ladies Trout Night? We host events throughout the season and are always happy to put together a trip for a group.

Give the shop a call to learn more!

Lakeview Outfitters was born from a desire to spend more time on the water, share our fly fishing obsession with others and have a positive impact on local fisheries and catch and release culture/practices.

Great fishing is certainly part of that, but so are healthy rivers, wild places, awesome people, and taking the time to slow down and enjoy being outside.

Whether you're joining us for a day on the water, stopping by the fly shop, or just looking for local advice, we'd love to help you experience it for yourself.

See you on the water!

This is why we do it. 🧜🏻‍♀️

Many women come into the Steelhead Sirens Retreat excited, but also a little nervous.

Maybe they're new to fly fishing.
Maybe they've never swung a fly for steelhead before.
Maybe they're wondering if they're capable of learning something completely new.

Then a few days later, they're landing fish, building confidence, and cheering each other on from the riverbank.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Caitlin—and for being part of such a wonderful crew.

If you've been curious about our ladies-only fly fishing retreat, spots for the 2026 season are OPEN.
