Picture this: the weekend forecast is gloomy, but you are determined not to let it ruin your mood. You grab your umbrella and hop in the car. You sing your favorite songs at the top of your lungs while you drive to our stand. As you walk up the colors hit you, releasing dopamine in your brain. You’re smiling without even trying as you choose the bouquet that speaks to you. Every time you see your bouquet on your kitchen island over the next week it brings you joy. That’s money well spent.

This week’s bouquets are something special. The combination of yellows and pinks remind me of rainbow sherbet or a summer sunset. They fill your face with a smile and give you that warm feeling that noticing beautiful things brings.

Here’s a bouquet secret for you: every variety of flower has a different purpose in a bouquet. Some flowers say, “look at me,” and immediately grab your attention. Florists call those focal flowers. Line flowers like Snapdragons and Larkspur, add movement, height and softness to the bouquet. Foliage like Eucalyptus adds bulk, texture, and breaks up the color.

If you ask me, the filler flowers are the unsung heroes. They may seem more ordinary than the Dahlias, Peonies, Sunflowers and Hydrangeas but they pull everything together. Like a great supporting actress, the filler flowers make the focal flowers shine.

Something changes everyday on the flower farm. What was a bud one day is bursting with color the next. Right now the seeds we started in fall and overwintered in greenhouse tunnels are flourishing. Larkspur, snapdragons and bachelor buttons braved the freezing winter, covered in snow. Yet, they are thriving in this late Spring weather and providing the most lovely bouquets.

They are the star of our bouquet this weekend, alongside the last of the peonies. ❤️
