Our gallery showcases a rotating exhibit of images, enabling customers to get an up-close look at how Leica has become a witness to history and a tool in creating the finest photographic art. In addition, we will be hosting several in-house demos and workshops for professionals and enthusiasts seeking to discover or enhance their photographic skills. Nearly 100 years ago, Oskar Barnack's genius idea of a small format 35 mm camera created a revolution in photography, paving the way for the birth of the Leica Legend. His diminutive, lightweight Leica offered a new, undreamed-of freedom in reportage and artistic photography. From that point to the present day, Leica has had a profound influence on our view of the world we live in. And remarkably, you can still savour this sheer visual enjoyment time and time again whenever you use a Leica product to provide that unique visual perspective. Today Leica announced, the Leica Summicron-M 66mm f/2, which brings one of the most fascinating lenses in Leica history into the present day. Part of the Leica Classic Line and limited to just 660 individually numbered lenses worldwide, it is a modern reinterpretation of the exceptionally rare Elcan 66mm f/2 developed by legendary optical designer Dr. Walter Mandler at Ernst Leitz Canada in the late 1960s. Originally commissioned by the US Navy for covert reconnaissance photography, only around 200 examples of the original lens were produced.

The new Summicron-M 66mm f/2 retains the optical character and fundamental design of its historic predecessor while being optimized and adapted to modern standards. At its maximum f/2 aperture, the lens combines high contrast with soft, harmonious bokeh and a distinctive rendering particularly well suited to portrait photography.

Stopping down reveals the characteristic for which the original Elcan was created: exceptional resolving power capable of reproducing the finest details with outstanding precision.

Today, August 19th marks the day in 1839 that one of the earliest forms of photography and the first to be publicly available was announced: the Daguerreotype.

Over the last 187 years, we’ve come a long way from tediously coating metal plates. Each generation of photographer has had a new challenge – from Barnack’s dream to build a “kleinfilmkamera” small enough to fit in your pocket to the dawn of AI in the modern era. Photography is a constantly changing art and it rewards those always willing to learn something new.

Join Leica Store Miami as we celebrate World Photography Day 📸 with a special Photography Book Salon 📕 — an evening dedicated to the books, images, and stories that have shaped our understanding of photography.

The evening will feature an open, salon-style discussion. Participants will bring and share the photography books that have influenced their creative journey while reflecting on a central question: What does photography preserve that nothing else can?
